Duncan Smith Offers to Lead EU Superstate Revolt by Benedict Brogan Iain Duncan Smith (leader of the UK Conservative party) yesterday thrust himself to the head of a revolt against a European superstate with a call for a "democratic revolution" against the euro and the draft European constitution. He cast himself in the mould of Margaret Thatcher, who, in a speech in Bruges in 1988, promised to oppose a superstate. He offered himself as a "champion" of the rights of national democracies. In a speech in Prague aimed at the newest EU members, the Tory leader called for a "new Europe" to take over from the "old Europe" of the EU's main founders, France and Germany, which he accused of trying to "bully" Britain and the rest of the union. With conservative leaders from the Czech Republic, and Poland, he published a "Prague declaration" committing their parties to campaign for a referendum on the draft constitution and against any further EU integration. Mr Duncan Smith expects other European Center-Right parties to endorse the statement. "The steamroller is out of control," he said. "Those who have fought long to gain their freedoms say we must have a champion to celebrate national democracies. It is a start. We are beginning to fight back. This is our vision: a Europe of national democracies, trading freely with each other and committed to freedom and democracy around the world." He said: "Parliament has no more right to lay
Britain's sovereignty at the feet of a foreign constitution than it has
to ban elections. No British government has a right to give away that
which it does not own." He insists that the Tories had no hidden agenda to
take Britain out of the EU.
After nearly two years of self imposed silence, Iain Duncan Smith picked a good time and a good place to set out his vision of the future of Europe. The timing was right because yesterday, the draft European Constitution was finalised by Valery Giscard d'Estang. As if to mock this show of unity, a dispute of unprecedented acrimony between the German chancellor and the Italian prime minister showed no sign of abating. Meanwhile the European Commission was engulfed in yet another corruption scandal, while the still greater abuses of the EU's aid budget and the Common Agricultural Policy persist. The economies of the euro zone languish on the brink of recession. Worst of all, the chasm that opened up with America over Iraq has yet to be bridged.
Minister quits to fight EU policy Michael Wills is to step down as Home Office Minister to launch a crusade against the European Common Agricultural Policy, he announced yesterday. The MP for Swindon North told The DailyTelegraph in
an interview that he would be launching an e-mail petition calling for
the end of the 'grotesque protectionist racket.' PHILLIP DAY'S COMMENT: At last, the Conservatives stir themselves, probably to avoid certain political oblivion after the next general election if they don't rediscover their support-base and fast. 60-70% of the British people currently want to leave the EU now they know remaining in it will mean a) a continuance of all the corruption, b) a marginal say in how their nation will be run in future, and c) the surrender of the pound. The others who still support the European Union are mostly trusting souls who believe in the Brotherhood of Man, and have not yet come to grips with the crashingly blatant fraud and criminal activity that passes for European government these days. If Iain Duncan Smith were to champion the true cause of returning Britain back to her independence, negotiating a free-trade agreement with the nations of Europe (which is what we thought we were joining back in 1973), he will storm home in the next election. Failure to do so will be disastrous for his career and the fortunes of his beleaguered party. As many of you know, I am not against a 'united Europe'. I am against THIS United Europe, run by scoundrels and criminals who seek to impose totalitarian governance on free nations and peoples. Britain looks on as the eurozone and its risible currency plummets economically but so far has done little. I think Britain and Europe have a marvelous future as independent, self-governing states linked together in a trade Commonwealth where all can benefit. Let's consign this protectionist mafia currently running Europe to the jails where they belong and make their stain on our conscience a thing of the past. Those of you within the Conservative Party, UK Independence Party (UKIP), Democracy Movement and others, take heart! People like IDS are beginning to sit up and do something. New Food Watchdog Bans EU by Sean Poulter Nations and regions which want to stay free of genetically modified crops will be banned from doing so under a devastating ruling by EU scientists. The decision, the first from the new European Food Safety Authority, means governments will be unable to stop the controversial plants being grown on their soil - effectively opening the floodgates. It is a disastrous blow to those British consumers, farmers, politician and green campaigners who are fearful about the safety of so-called Frankenstein foods. The administrations in Scotland and Wales and many English local authorities - particularly in the South West - oppose GM crops. Last night, Greenpeace warned Britain was being dragged into a vast and unpredictable experiment. Once commercial planting of GM crops is allowed, their pollen will spread and contaminate the entire countryside. Former environment minister Michael Meacher has warned of gaping holes in our knowledge about the effect of GM on human health and the countryside. He has raised the possibility of damage to the immune system, sexual development and the stomach lining. There are also concerns about new allergies. Separately, there are worries that GM pollen will taint conventional and organic farms. And research has pointed to the creation of superweeds. Mr Meacher has called on the Government to postpone or ban commercial growing of GM crops here. However, an EFSA scientific panel has now decided these are not sufficient reasons for any EU nation or region to choose GM free-status. The ruling is on an application by Upper Austria to be declared a GM-free zone for all existing GM crops or animals. The rejection of the application - to be officially published tomorrow - sets a precedent across Europe. In effect, it means a farmer or biotech company will be allowed to grow GM crops virtually anywhere in the EU, regardless of public fears or political opposition. Yesterday, Greenpeace called into question the independence of EFSA and its GM science panel. The chief executive is British civil servant Geoffrey Podger who was previously in charge of the pro-GM Food Standards Agency here. The British Government, which from Tony Blair down is seen as supporting GM, was consulted on who should represent this country on the EU's GM panel. Two of those chosen are GM enthusiasts - Professor Mike Gasson, of the Institute of Food Research in Norfolk and Professor Jeremy Sweet, of the National Institute of Agricultural Botany, Cambridge. Greenpeace GM campaigner Nathan Argent said: "Once again, Tony Blair's science cronies have shown how determined they are to force this unwanted technology down our throats. Our countryside is being forced to take part in an unwanted and unpredictable environmental experiment. Whatever happened to choice"? But Professor Sweet said those who raise social or moral objections to GM are "just muddying the waters". He rejected the health warnings raised by Mr. Meacher and others saying: "There has to be an acceptance of the integrity of the science". An EU moratorium on new GM crops was lifted last week under pressure from the US. Biotech firms such as Monsanto, are pressing ahead with applications to grow GM oilseed rape, maize, beet, potatoes and other crops. The first could go into commercial cultivation in Britain

Candida - A Crisis of Critters by Phillip Day Profiles Candida albicans Candida albicans, a usually benign and beneficial yeast, is one of the main trouble-makers. When fed a constant diet of its favourite totty, glucose, and housed in its ideal environment of acidic, oxygen-repelling, fermentation-rich tissues and ductal structures, it multiplies prolifically and feeds and grows, damaging healthy cells and producing toxins that compromise the body's own immune defences. Parasites We inadvertently pick up parasites through our day-to-day activities and especially through eating undercooked or contaminated food. Try an experiment and put some cat food out in an isolated part of your yard for a few sunny days and then go back and examine it (don't let any pets interfere and keep away from grass and earth). You will invariably find it crawling with infestation. Blood flukes can enter our systems through infected drinking water and take up residence in the bladder, intestines, liver, lungs, rectum and spleen, laying their eggs and breeding in humans for up to 20 years. Trichina worm larvae found in undercooked pork migrate from the intestines through the blood and lymphatic system, eventually lodging in muscles and ducts. Threadworm larvae enter skin from the soil and pass through the bloodstream to the lungs, sometimes causing pneumonia. Eliminating parasites is effectively a three-phase program. Killing them, flushing them out and then supplementing our relieved bodies with healthy nutrients to maintain optimum health. Fungi and yeasts Yeasts like Candida are single-cell fungi, which multiply prolifically when fed organically bound carbon, one essential element that characterises all dead and living matter. Fungi and yeasts are like the hyenas of the veld. They are scavengers. Abundant carbon compounds like sugars are their favourite. The more sugary foods we eat, the more these life-forms feast within us. Yeasts are well known to ferment sugar into alcohol in the absence of oxygen. Breweries depend on it! If we fail to exercise or eat oxygen-rich, organic fruits and vegetables, we are inviting the dangerous and unwelcome proliferation of critters - by providing an oxygen-poor, fermentation-rich breeding ground in which they can boom. We literally become our own brewery to the delight of our squiggly little lodgers deep inside. The Columbia Encyclopaedia states: "Their bodies [fungi] consist of slender, cottony filaments called hyphae; a mass of hyphae is called a mycelium. The mycelium carries on all the processes necessary for the life of the organism, including in most species, that of sexual reproduction." The connection between parasites and cancer As fungi and yeasts, and their progeny - tumours - thrive, they secrete enzymes of their own to depress the immune system of the cells around them and rob them of their oxygen, thus maintaining their ideal fermentation environment, enabling them to invade and corrupt more cells. Here we have the dynamic connection between parasites/yeasts/ fungi and cancer. First, apologies for confusing San Palo (Brazil!) and Palo Alto, California in my last IFIN. I was too much in a hurry to get out the good news! Any of our readers who have ever tried to raise the issue of fluoridation in their community, know how quickly you become a lightning rod for abuse, or worse, people studiously ignore mentioning the subject! As you read the letters in the newspaper touting the authorities that have put their stamp of approval to the practice, you begin to doubt your own sanity. You tread the schizophrenic line between two different worlds. In the world of your own research, the data indicates that this practice is unethical, the benefits have been wildly exaggerated and the dangers have been ignored. However, in the other world of newspaper editorials and statements from government health officials, the practice is one of the best things that have ever happened in public health! It is a great moment when you move from a minority of one and find someone who you respect who agrees with you. It is also a wonderful when letters come in from outside -from other towns, even other countries -and confirm that you are not crazy. Maybe one of those letters even convinces a key person in your community that the Emperor of Fluoridation has no clothes. All this by way of thanking all of you who so tirelessly write in your letters to help people who you do not know, and probably will never meet. You did this for us in Canton, and you have done it for many other communities. And it works. Those who are used to getting their own way locally, find it more difficult to fight off the wisdom from outside. There are three places which urgently need our attention right now. Brisbane, Australia; Christchurch, New Zealand and Hamilton, New Zealand. Officials are trying to put fluoridation into Brisbane and Christchurch, and citizens are trying to get it out of Hamilton. Dr Ingrid Tall, 38, became the youngest AMAQ president when she took over from Dr Russell Stitz yesterday for her first day in office. Dr Tall said improving public health education, as
well as community understanding of the issues facing doctors and the industry,
would be major goals during her one-year term. She said the high incidence of teeth decay was a major concern especially because of the impact poor oral health could have on the rest of the body. Dr Tall said that with the recent departure of Brisbane lord mayor Jim Soorley "lightbulbs turned on" in many health organisations, after a move to introduce water fluoridation was defeated by Brisbane City Council in 1997. "There are more than 150 scientific and health organisations worldwide that are actively wanting to provide fluoridation of the water supply, and there is a global trend towards it," Dr Tall said. She said the AMAQ planned to let Lord Mayor Tim Quinn settle into office before raising the issue with him but stakeholders were "talking behind the scenes and mobilising the troops". Cr Quinn yesterday said Brisbane City Council's position had not changed since a 1997 report compiled by a taskforce of community and expert representatives could not rule out any negative effects of introducing fluoride into the water. "But I want to stress that if there is any new evidence, I am always prepared to consider it," he said yesterday. Liberal mayoral candidate Campbell Newman yesterday
said he was against the move but would be prepared to discuss the issue. Dear Editor, Dr Ingid Tall's support for public health education in general is commendable, but her enthusiasm for the fluoridation of water supplies (Letters, 27 May) is poorly based. From the School Dental Service data for 1987, the permanent teeth of 10-year-olds in unfluoridated Brisbane had less decay than those in Melbourne, the same decay as in Adelaide and Perth, and more decay than in Hobart, Canberra or Sydney. All the other capital cities were fluoridated. Almost all of continental Europe has either terminated or never implemented fluoridation, and yet children's teeth there have generally similar levels of decay to those in fluoridated countries. Nowadays many expert fluoride research scientists accept that there is no benefit from swallowing fluoride. Fluoride toothpaste reduces decay through its action at the surface of teeth. Since the fluoride concentration of toothpaste is about 1000 times that of fluoridated drinking water, it is more effective. So, people are being conned into swallowing an ineffective
preventive medication with uncontrolled dose. Those who drink the most
water -- e.g. athletes, outdoor workers, diabetes sufferers and infants
who ingest milk formula reconstituted with fluoridated water -- are at
greatest risk of chronic poisoning. Surely the medical profession should
speak out against mass medication?

Re. Medical chief backs fluoride [CM 27/05/03] AMAQ's current president, Dr Ingrid Tall, would do well to inform herself of current events on the international fluoridation scene before attempting to impose fluoridation on Queenslanders. On May 6th in Washington DC, the USA EPA hosted a Science Forum entitled, "Social Resistance to Fluoridation". This was intended as a one-on-one debate. Speaking against fluoridation was Paul Connett, Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry at St Lawrence University, Canton, New York; however, although many scientists, and others, representing high-profile pro-fluoridation bodies were invited to debate for fluoridation, not one single person accepted the EPA invitation. It is interesting to note how propagators of fluoridation frequently work behind the scene for fluoridation, but refuse to debate publically. Dr Connett has suggested that a tremendous landmark on Dr Tall's road to her fluoridation dream would be to take him on in an open public debate on fluoridation, sometime between 21st June and 11th July when he will be in Australia again. The time is overdue for Australian doctors and dentists to update themselves with the latest peer-reviewed and published scientific studies on fluoridation. Call for fluoride in water The fluoride debate looks set to rage in Christchurch with the Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) announcing it wants fluoride in the city's water supply. The CDHB is formulating a policy which will support fluoridation. CDHB chief executive Jean O'Callaghan said Canterbury
tooth decay rates were high compared to other parts of New Zealand and
developed countries with fluoridated water. Christchurch is the biggest metropolitan area in the country which is not fluoridated. Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin have fluoridated water. A recent study of Wellington and Christchurch five-year-olds showed Christchurch children had 30 per cent more cavities than Wellington children. School and Community Dental Service head Martin Lee said there was a misconception that fluoride only helped children's teeth. "It helps anyone who has teeth," he said. "That includes dear old granny as well. The reality is the cost of not providing fluoride falls on the DHB. But the cost of providing fluoride is really, really cheap." Christchurch City Council planning and projects manager, water and waste unit, Bruce Henderson, said the council had done cost estimates of putting fluoride in the water supply in 2000. These showed it would cost $3 million to put it into the water supply, with a $250,000 annual operating cost. "It is more expensive here because places like Wellington and Dunedin only have about four pumping sites," he said. "We have 50." Mr Henderson said a public survey in October 2000 showed 60 per cent of Christchurch citizens did not support putting chemicals, including fluoride, in the water supply. Council officers had not made any recommendations on the issue. "It is a debate for the health professionals," he said. Mr Lee estimated fluoride in the water supply would save $52 million in dental costs over 30 years. CDHB board member Randall Allardyce told last week's board meeting that the board needed the city council's buy-in on its fluoride policy. "They (council) are congratulating themselves about not polluting the water," he said. "That is like congratulating yourself for not providing vaccinations. It is putting a curse on youngsters with tooth decay." Anti-fluoride campaigners claim the chemical causes cancer and weakens bones. Christchurch City councillor Ron Wright opposes fluoride in Christchurch's water supply. "I don't think tooth decay is of such magnitude that we need fluoride in the water," he said. "I don't like fluoride and I don't think it is necessary when you have the standard and quality of the water in this city." PHILLIP DAY'S COMMENT: OK, here's a chance to make CTM's support work for the good people of Australia and New Zealand. Why not spend a few minutes writing and sending in your views to those concerned. Professor Paul Connett is to be applauded and admired for his tireless work on behalf of everyone to have the menace of fluoridation erased from our society. Remember, if you don't want to get dental cavities, stop eating sugar, white bread, etc. I know this is not a popular message for the farmers of Queensland! The Hidden Hazards of Microwave Cooking by Anthony Wayne and Lawrence Newell Is it possible that millions of people are ignorantly sacrificing their health in exchange for the convenience of microwave ovens? Why did the Soviet Union ban the use of microwave ovens in 1976? Who invented microwave ovens, and why? The answers to these questions may shock you into throwing your microwave oven in the trash. Over 90% of American homes have microwave ovens used for meal preparation. Because microwave ovens are so convenient and energy efficient, as compared to conventional ovens, very few homes or restaurants are without them. In general, people believe that whatever a microwave oven does to foods cooked in it doesn't have any negative effect on either the food or them. Of course, if microwave ovens were really harmful, our government would never allow them on the market, would they? Would they? Regardless of what has been "officially" released concerning microwave ovens, we have personally stopped using ours based on the research facts outlined in this article. The purpose of this report is to show proof - evidence - that microwave cooking is not natural, nor healthy, and is far more dangerous to the human body than anyone could imagine. However, the microwave oven manufacturers, Washington City politics, and plain old human nature are suppressing the facts and evidence. Because of this, people are continuing to microwave their food - in blissful ignorance - without knowing the effects and danger of doing so. How do microwave ovens work? Microwaves are a form of electromagnetic energy, like light waves or radio waves, and occupy a part of the electromagnetic spectrum of power, or energy. Microwaves are very short waves of electromagnetic energy that travel at the speed of light (186,282 miles per second). In our modern technological age, microwaves are used to relay long distance telephone signals, television programs, and computer information across the earth or to a satellite in space. But the microwave is most familiar to us as an energy source for cooking food. Every microwave oven contains a magnetron, a tube in which electrons are affected by magnetic and electric fields in such a way as to produce micro wavelength radiation at about 2450 Mega Hertz (MHz) or 2.45 Giga Hertz (GHz). This microwave radiation interacts with the molecules in food. All wave energy changes polarity from positive to negative with each cycle of the wave. In microwaves, these polarity changes happen millions of times every second. Food molecules - especially the molecules of water - have a positive and negative end in the same way a magnet has a north and a south polarity. In commercial models, the oven has a power input of about 1000 watts of alternating current. As these microwaves generated from the magnetron bombard the food, they cause the polar molecules to rotate at the same frequency millions of times a second. All this agitation creates molecular friction, which heats up the food. The friction also causes substantial damage to the surrounding molecules, often tearing them apart or forcefully deforming them. The scientific name for this deformation is "structural isomerism". Many terms are used in describing electromagnetic waves, such as wavelength, amplitude, cycle and frequency: v Wavelength determines the type of radiation, i.e.
radio, X-ray, ultraviolet, visible, infrared, etc. Radiation = spreading energy with electromagnetic waves We've all been told that microwaving food is not the same as irradiating it (radiation "treatment"). The two processes are supposed to use completely different waves of energy and at different intensities. No FDA or officially released government studies have proven current microwaving usage to be harmful, but we all know that the validity of studies can be - and are sometimes deliberately - limiting. Many of these studies are later proven to be inaccurate. As consumers, we're supposed to have a certain degree of common sense to use in judgment. Take the example of eggs and how they were "proven" to be so harmful to our health in the late 1960's. This brought about imitation egg products and big profits for the manufacturers, while egg farms went broke. Now, recent government sponsored studies are saying that eggs are not bad for us after all. So, whom should we believe and what criteria should we use to decide matters concerning our health? Since it's currently published that microwaves - purportedly - don't leak into the environment, when properly used and with approved design, the decision lies with each consumer as to whether or not you choose to eat food heated by a microwave oven or even purchase one in the first place.
Microwaves unsafe for baby's milk A number of warnings have been made public, but have been barely noticed. For example, Young Families, the Minnesota Extension Service of the University of Minnesota, published the following in 1989: "Although microwaves heat food quickly, they are not recommended for heating a baby's bottle. The bottle may seem cool to the touch, but the liquid inside may become extremely hot and could burn the baby's mouth and throat. Also, the buildup of steam in a closed container, such as a baby bottle, could cause it to explode. Heating the bottle in a microwave can cause slight changes in the milk. In infant formulas, there may be a loss of some vitamins. In expressed breast milk, some protective properties may be destroyed. Warming a bottle by holding it under tap water, or by setting it in a bowl of warm water, then testing it on your wrist before feeding may take a few minutes longer, but it is much safer." Dr. Lita Lee of Hawaii reported in the December 9,
1989 Lancet: Microwaved blood kills patient In 1991, there was a lawsuit in Oklahoma concerning the hospital use of a microwave oven to warm blood needed in a transfusion. The case involved a hip surgery patient, Norma Levitt, who died from a simple blood transfusion. It seems the nurse had warmed the blood in a microwave oven. This tragedy makes it very apparent that there's much more to "heating" with microwaves than we've been led to believe. Blood for transfusions is routinely warmed, but not in microwave ovens. In the case of Mrs. Levitt, the microwaving altered the blood and it killed her. It's very obvious that this form of microwave radiation "heating" does something to the substances it heats. It's also becoming quite apparent that people who process food in a microwave oven are also ingesting these "unknowns". Because the body is electrochemical in nature, any force that disrupts or changes human electrochemical events will affect the physiology of the body. This is further described in Robert O. Becker's book, The Body Electric, and in Ellen Sugarman's book, Warning, the Electricity Around You May Be Hazardous to Your Health. Scientific evidence and facts In Comparative Study of Food Prepared Conventionally and in the Microwave Oven, published by Raum & Zelt in 1992, at 3(2): 43, it states: "A basic hypothesis of natural medicine states that the introduction into the human body of molecules and energies, to which it is not accustomed, is much more likely to cause harm than good. Microwaved food contains both molecules and energies not present in food cooked in the way humans have been cooking food since the discovery of fire. Naturally occurring amino acids have been observed to undergo isomeric changes (changes in shape morphing) as well as transformation into toxic forms, under the impact of microwaves produced in ovens." One short-term study found significant and disturbing changes in the blood of individuals consuming microwaved milk and vegetables. Eight volunteers ate various combinations of the same foods cooked different ways. All foods that were processed through the microwave ovens caused changes in the blood of the volunteers. Hemoglobin levels decreased and over all white cell levels and cholesterol levels increased. Lymphocytes decreased. Luminescent (light-emitting) bacteria were employed to detect energetic changes in the blood. Significant increases were found in the luminescence of these bacteria when exposed to blood serum obtained after the consumption of microwaved food." The Swiss clinical study Dr. Hans Ulrich Hertel, who is now retired, worked as a food scientist for many years with one of the major Swiss food companies that do business on a global scale. A few years ago, he was fired from his job for questioning certain processing procedures that denatured the food. In 1991, he and a Lausanne University professor published a research paper indicating that food cooked in microwave ovens could pose a greater risk to health than food cooked by conventional means. An article also appeared in issue 19 of the Journal Franz Weber in which it was stated that the consumption of food cooked in microwave ovens had cancerous effects on the blood. The research paper itself followed the article. On the cover of the magazine there was a picture of the Grim Reaper holding a microwave oven in one of his hands. Dr. Hertel was the first scientist to conceive and carry out a quality clinical study on the effects microwaved nutrients have on the blood and physiology of the human body. His small but well controlled study showed the degenerative force produced in microwave ovens and the food processed in them. The scientific conclusion showed that microwave cooking changed the nutrients in the food; and, changes took place in the participants' blood that could cause deterioration in the human system. Hertel's scientific study was done along with Dr. Bernard H. Blanc of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the University Institute for Biochemistry. In intervals of two to five days, the volunteers in the study received one of the following food variants on an empty stomach: (1) raw milk; (2) the same milk conventionally cooked; (3) pasteurized milk; (4) the same raw milks cooked in a microwave oven; (5) raw vegetables from an organic farm; (6) the same vegetables cooked conventionally; (7) the same vegetables frozen and defrosted in a microwave oven; and (8) the same vegetables cooked in the microwave oven. Once the volunteers were isolated, blood samples were taken from every volunteer immediately before eating. Then, blood samples were taken at defined intervals after eating from the above milk or vegetable preparations. Significant changes were discovered in the blood samples from the intervals following the foods cooked in the microwave oven. These changes included a decrease in all hemoglobin and cholesterol values, especially the ratio of HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL (bad cholesterol) values. Lymphocytes (white blood cells) showed a more distinct short-term decrease following the intake of microwaved food than after the intake of all the other variants. Each of these indicators pointed to degeneration. Additionally, there was a highly significant association between the amount of microwave energy in the test foods and the luminous power of luminescent bacteria exposed to serum from test persons who ate that food. This led Dr. Hertel to the conclusion that such technically derived energies may, indeed, be passed along to man inductively via eating microwaved food. According to Dr. Hertel, "Leukocytosis, which cannot be accounted for by normal daily deviations, is taken very seriously by hemotologists. Leukocytes are often signs of pathogenic effects on the living system, such as poisoning and cell damage. The increase of leukocytes with the microwaved foods were more pronounced than with all the other variants. It appears that these marked increases were caused entirely by ingesting the microwaved substances. This process is based on physical principles and has already been confirmed in the literature. The apparent additional energy exhibited by the luminescent bacteria was merely an extra confirmation. There is extensive scientific literature concerning the hazardous effects of direct microwave radiation on living systems. It is astonishing, therefore, to realize how little effort has been taken to replace this detrimental technique of microwaves with technology more in accordance with nature. Technically produced microwaves are based on the principle of alternating current. Atoms, molecules, and cells hit by this hard electromagnetic radiation are forced to reverse polarity 1-100 billion times a second. There are no atoms, molecules or cells of any organic system able to withstand such a violent, destructive power for any extended period of time, not even in the low energy range of milliwatts. Of all the natural substances - which are polar - the oxygen of water molecules reacts most sensitively. This is how microwave cooking heat is generated - friction from this violence in water molecules. Structures of molecules are torn apart, molecules are forcefully deformed, called structural isomerism, and thus become impaired in quality. This is contrary to conventional heating of food where heat transfers convectionally from without to within. Cooking by microwaves begins within the cells and molecules where water is present and where the energy is transformed into frictional heat. In addition to the violent frictional heat effects, called thermic effects, there are also athermic effects which have hardly ever been taken into account. These athermic effects are not presently measurable, but they can also deform the structures of molecules and have qualitative consequences. For example the weakening of cell membranes by microwaves is used in the field of gene altering technology. Because of the force involved, the cells are actually broken, thereby neutralizing the electrical potentials, the very life of the cells, between the outer and inner side of the cell membranes. Impaired cells become easy prey for viruses, fungi and other microorganisms. The natural repair mechanisms are suppressed and cells are forced to adapt to a state of energy emergency - they switch from aerobic to anaerobic respiration. Instead of water and carbon dioxide, the cell poisons hydrogen peroxide and carbon monoxide are produced." The same violent deformations that occur in our bodies, when we are directly exposed to radar or microwaves, also occur in the molecules of foods cooked in a microwave oven. This radiation results in the destruction and deformation of food molecules. Microwaving also creates new compounds, called radiolytic compounds, which are unknown fusions not found in nature. Radiolytic compounds are created by molecular decomposition - decay - as a direct result of radiation. Microwave oven manufacturers insist that microwaved and irradiated foods do not have any significantly higher radiolytic compounds than do broiled, baked or other conventionally cooked foods. The scientific clinical evidence presented here has shown that this is simply a lie. In America, neither universities nor the federal government have conducted any tests concerning the effects on our bodies from eating microwaved foods. Isn't that a bit odd? They're more concerned with studies on what happens if the door on a microwave oven doesn't close properly. Once again, common sense tells us that their attention should be centered on what happens to food cooked inside a microwave oven. Since people ingest this altered food, shouldn't there be concern for how the same decayed molecules will affect our own human biological cell structure? Industry's action to hide the truth As soon as Doctors Hertel and Blanc published their results, the authorities reacted. A powerful trade organization, the Swiss Association of Dealers for Electro-apparatuses for Households and Industry, known as FEA, struck swiftly in 1992. They forced the President of the Court of Seftigen, Canton of Bern, to issue a "gag order" against Drs. Hertel and Blanc. In March 1993, Dr. Hertel was convicted for "interfering with commerce" and prohibited from further publishing his results. However, Dr. Hertel stood his ground and fought this decision over the years. Not long ago, this decision was reversed in a judgment delivered in Strasbourg, Austria, on August 25, 1998. The European Court of Human Rights held that there had been a violation of Hertel's rights in the 1993 decision. The European Court of Human Rights also ruled that the "gag order" issued by the Swiss court in 1992 against Dr. Hertel, prohibiting him from declaring that microwave ovens are dangerous to human health, was contrary to the right to freedom of expression. In addition, Switzerland was ordered to pay Dr. Hertel compensation. Who invented microwave ovens? The Nazis, for use in their mobile support operations, originally developed microwave "radiomissor" cooking ovens to be used for the invasion of Russia. By being able to utilize electronic equipment for preparation of meals on a mass scale, the logistical problem of cooking fuels would have been eliminated, as well as the convenience of producing edible products in a greatly reduced time-factor. After the war, the Allies discovered medical research done by the Germans on microwave ovens. These documents, along with some working microwave ovens, were transferred to the United States War Department and classified for reference and "further scientific investigation." The Russians had also retrieved some microwave ovens and now have thorough research on their biological effects. As a result, their use was outlawed in the Soviet Union. The Soviets issued an international warning on the health hazards, both biological and environmental, of microwave ovens and similar frequency electronic devices. Other Eastern European scientists also reported the harmful effects of microwave radiation and set up strict environmental limits for their usage. The United States has not accepted the European reports of harmful effects, even though the EPA estimates that radio frequency and microwave radiation sources in America are increasing at 15% per year. Carcinogens in microwaved food In Dr. Lita Lee's book, Health Effects of Microwave Radiation - Microwave Ovens, and in the March and September 1991 issues of Earthletter, she stated that every microwave oven leaks electro-magnetic radiation, harms food, and converts substances cooked in it to dangerous organ-toxic and carcinogenic products. Further research summarized in this article reveal that microwave ovens are far more harmful than previously imagined. The following is a summary of the Russian investigations published by the Atlantis Raising Educational Center in Portland, Oregon. Carcinogens were formed in virtually all foods tested. No test food was subjected to more microwaving than necessary to accomplish the purpose, i.e., cooking, thawing, or heating to insure sanitary ingestion. Here's a summary of some of the results: v Microwaving prepared meats sufficiently to insure
sanitary ingestion caused formation of d-Nitrosodienthanolamines, a well-known
carcinogen. Russian researchers also reported a marked acceleration of structural degradation leading to a decreased food value of 60 to 90% in all foods tested. Among the changes observed were: v Deceased bio-availability of vitamin B complex, vitamin
C, vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotropics factors in all food tested.
Microwave sickness is discovered The Russians did research on thousands of workers who had been exposed to microwaves during the development of radar in the 1950's. Their research showed health problems so serious that the Russians set strict limits of 10 microwatts exposure for workers and one microwatt for civilians. In Robert O. Becker's book, The Body Electric, he described Russian research on the health effects of microwave radiation, which they called "microwave sickness." On page 314, Becker states: "It's [Microwave sickness] first signs are low blood pressure and slow pulse. The later and most common manifestations are chronic excitation of the sympathetic nervous system [stress syndrome] and high blood pressure. This phase also often includes headache, dizziness, eye pain, sleeplessness, irritability, anxiety, stomach pain, nervous tension, inability to concentrate, hair loss, plus an increased incidence of appendicitis, cataracts, reproductive problems, and cancer. The chronic symptoms are eventually succeeded by crisis of adrenal exhaustion and ischemic heart disease [the blockage of coronary arteries and heart attacks]." According to Dr. Lee, changes are observed in the blood chemistries and the rates of certain diseases among consumers of microwaved foods. The symptoms above can easily be caused by the observations shown below. The following is a sample of these changes: v Lymphatic disorders were observed, leading to decreased
ability to prevent certain types of cancers. Microwave research conclusions The following were the most significant German and Russian research operations facilities concerning the biological effects of microwaves: v The initial research conducted by the Germans during
the Barbarossa military campaign, at the Humbolt-Universitat zu Berlin
(1942-1943); and, In most cases, the foods used for research analysis were exposed to microwave propagation at an energy potential of 100 kilowatts/cm3/second, to the point considered acceptable for sanitary, normal ingestion. The effects noted by both German and Russian researchers is presented in three categories: v Category I, Cancer-Causing Effects

Microwave exposure caused significant decreases in the nutritive value of all foods researched. The following are the most important findings: 1. A decrease in the bioavailability [capability of
the body to utilize the nutriment] of B-complex vitamins, Vitamin C, Vitamin
E, essential minerals and lipotropics in all foods;
Exposure to microwave emissions also had an unpredictably negative effect upon the general biological welfare of humans. This was not discovered until the Russians experimented with highly sophisticated equipment and discovered that a human did not even need to ingest the material substance of the microwaved food substances: that even exposure to the energy-field itself was sufficient to cause such adverse side effects that the use of any such microwave apparatus was forbidden in 1976 by Soviet state law. The following are the enumerated effects: 1. A breakdown of the human "life-energy field"
in those who were exposed to microwave ovens while in operation, with
side-effects to the human energy field of increasingly longer duration;
Forensic Research Conclusions From the twenty-eight above enumerated indications, the use of microwave apparatus is definitely not advisable; and, with the decision of the Soviet government in 1976, present scientific opinion in many countries concerning the use of such apparatus is clearly in evidence. Due to the problem of random magnetic residulation and binding within the biological systems of the body (Category III:9), which can ultimately effect the neurological systems, primarily the brain and neuroplexuses (nerve centers), long term depolarization of tissue neuroelectric circuits can result. Because these effects can cause virtually irreversible damage to the neuroelectrical integrity of the various components of the nervous system (I. R. Luria, Novosibirsk 1975a), ingestion of microwaved foods is clearly contraindicated in all respects. Their magnetic residual effect can render the pyschoneural receptor components of the brain more subject to influence psychologically by artificially induced microwave radio frequency fields from transmission stations and TV relay-networks. The theoretical possibility of psycho telemetric influence (the capability of affecting human behavior by transmitted radio signals at controlled frequencies) has been suggested by Soviet neuropsychological investigations at Uralyera and Novosibirsk (Luria and Perov, 1974a, 1975c, 1976a), which can cause involuntary subliminal psychological energy field compliance to operative microwave apparatus.

PHILLIP DAY'S COMMENT: Yup Non-stick Pan Raising Health Fears by Greg Arnold Remember a few years ago when chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's), once thought to be safe and in every hair spray on the market, was banned because it destroyed ozone? Or how about polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's) once thought to be safe as well, until they were found to cause cancer and disrupt hormones. Now, scientists have found another toxic hormone to complete the trifecta of toxic substances put into the atmosphere to either ruin the environment or kill those using them. That chemical is perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). PFOA is a non-naturally occurring constituent chemical in Teflon, widely used for non-stick pans, and Gore-Tex, found in raincoats. Known to be included in packaged food containers, cosmetics, and carpet and furniture treatments, PFOA has been shown to kill rat pups in the lab setting as well as changing the weight of the brain, liver, and kidneys. Probably the most troubling aspect of PFOA is that it never degrades, so once put into the atmosphere, it will last for thousands of years. Fortunately, The Environmental Protection Agency has started to take measures on PFOA. Despite releasing a preliminary risk assessment of PFOA and suggesting it may have 'developmental and other health effects,' the EPA is not halting production of PFOA's, much to the chagrin of organizations like the Environmental Working Group in Washington, D.C., who is demanding a complete ban on PFOA. As is to be expected, the makers of Teflon and Gortex,
namely, DuPont, 3M, and W L Gore & Associates all insist PFOA's are

further the possible dangers of PFOA's: www.epa.gov/opptintr/pfoa/index.htm www.wwf.org.uk/core/about/scotland.asp Smallpox Vaccines Appear to Last a Lifetime If you received a smallpox vaccine during your lifetime, it's likely that you would still have some protection if the virus were used in a bio terrorism attack, according to a study. Tests showed that people who were vaccinated as long as 75 years ago still had at least some immunity to the virus, suggesting that smallpox immunity lasts virtually a lifetime. Routine smallpox vaccination was stopped in the United States in 1972, and the World Health Organization reported that the disease had been eliminated in 1980. Some 90 percent of Americans over the age of 30 years have been vaccinated against smallpox at least once, which indicates that as many as 150 million people still have some degree of immunity to the smallpox virus, researchers said. However, to defend against and discourage a potential bio terrorist attack that could use smallpox as the weapon, the Untied States has begun a smallpox vaccination campaign assuming that vaccinations stop providing immunity after about five years. About 36,000 health care and emergency workers have already been vaccinated and the military is vaccinating 500,000 personnel. In the study, researchers looked at the blood of 306 people who had received the smallpox vaccination in the past. Everyone still had some degree of immunity. While immunity appeared highest right after getting a vaccination, the level of immunity returns to a set point, even among people who had received multiple immunizations, researchers said. People with some immunity can become ill from the smallpox virus, though they are less likely to die from it. They can also pass the disease to others. At least half of the study participants had high levels of antibodies that would protect against serious infection, according to past studies conducted when smallpox was still around. Based on the findings, researchers suggest that if
there were a smallpox attack it would not be necessary to mass-vaccinate
the population. CTM COMMENT: The revered Reuters has spoken. That
doesn't mean this latest story has any substance. The truth is, we have
been sold one enormous lie as far as vaccination is concerned. The same
can be said for smallpox and the supposed dangers attached to this disease.

School Bars Parents on Sports Day By Beth Hale To children and parents alike, school sports day can be an unforgettable experience as the winners triumphantly cross the finishing line. But to headmistress Judith Wressel, traditional events such as the sack race and the egg and spoon are merely an embarrassment to those pupils who fail to achieve victory. She has announced that such events are to be replaced next month with a new 'activity-based' concept. And parents are not invited. The decision has upset many families whose children attend Maney Hill Primary in Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham. They learned of it in a letter from Mrs Wressel. She wrote: "Taking part in traditional races can be difficult and often embarrassing for many children, which is why we now envisage a different outdoor activity event which will suit all children. We want to make some ambitious organisational changes in the type and range of activity that children do. It is necessary to trial this initial pilot without parents present." One of those parents, Rob Busst, yesterday described the decision as 'political correctness gone mad'. The 43 year old, who has an eight year old son and a five year old son in his first year at the school said: "They are trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. I have been going to the sports day for the past four years and it is a wonderful day for parents, teachers and most importantly, the kids. All the children have a brilliant time, they all love being in the races and they love the fact the parents are there to cheer them on. Nobody takes it too seriously." Mr Busst, who runs an export company, said other parents were also baffled by the decision. "Normally my wife and I take the day off work and go and watch the children compete in the events. But this year they have hinted even the traditional events will be changed. It is quite barmy. Children don't become scarred for life if they lose the egg and spoon race." Mrs Wressel said the school had chosen to ban parents from the sports day after meetings with parents, children, teachers and governors. She declined to give details of the revised sports day, but said it would be a new 'activity-based' event. "We have done this to ensure all our children take part and enjoy the experience. This will be reviewed again and we expect to be able to involve parents next year when staff and pupils will be more experienced with the arrangements." A spokesman for Birmingham education authority said: "Many schools enjoy sports day with a variety of different activities and games. Each school decides the most appropriate way to arrange this in consultation with staff and governors and looking at the needs of all the pupils in the school." Only last year the Government revealed plans to replace traditional school sports days with activities such as group problem solving exercises. A 'sports day tool kit' compiled by Sport England was unveiled providing suggestions of alternative activities for schools. A Sport England spokesman described the approach as
inclusive without being anti-competitive. PHILLIP DAY'S COMMENT: Yet another example of psychiatric foolishness pervading our new therapeutic society today. Don't, for heaven's sake, allow the children to compete, or the losers may feel inadequate and develop a mental condition. Sports Day, now 'cruel and unusual punishment', will join the other worthy activities on the scrap heap of political correctness which used to teach our kids the skills they would later need to confront the harsh realities of life. But psychiatry doesn't want our children fending for themselves when there is a whole armada of social workers and child care 'specialists' on hand to soften the blows. What's the message here? Cancer: Why We're Still Dying to Know the Truth Cancer Risk '45% Higher' on The Pill By Beezy Marsh Contraceptive pills taken by more than three million women in Britain may be significantly raising their risk of breast cancer, it was claimed last night. A 45 per cent increase in the disease was found among women who had been taking the second-generation Pill for three years or more. A ten per cent increase was found in those taking it for less than three years. The findings follow a study of 100,000 women. The second-generation Pill, introduced in the 1970's, contains lower doses of oestrogen, which has been blamed for heightening cancer risks, than the first version, introduced in the 1960's. An estimated 3.25 million of the 3.74 million British women on the Pill now take the second-generation version. In the latest study, researchers at the University of Tromso in Norway studied 100,000 women aged 30 to 70. A total of 851 were found to have breast cancer and were subject to more detailed scrutiny with regard to their contraception history. The conclusions were published in the International Journal of Cancer. Author Vanessa Dumeaux said: "Our study seems to indicate a positive association between total dose of oestrogen and the risk of breast cancer." She warned that the link could be due to chance or confounding factors and called for urgent further studies. "Experimental data strongly suggests that oestrogens have a role in the development and growth of breast cancer. They promote the development of mammary cancer in rodents and exert both direct and indirect proliferate effects on cultured breast cancer cells from humans." UK specialists urged caution in interpreting the results. Dr Kate Law, director of clinical trials for Cancer Research UK, said: "Although it indicates there might be a trend, there really aren't enough people in the study who developed cancer to produce meaningful figures." Dr Richard Sullivan, head of clinical programmes at the charity, added: "It is very difficult for women to weigh up the pros and cons of the Pill, but basically, the overall risks from cancer are still very low. If you have a familial history of breast cancer, if you are a smoker or drink heavily, then the situation may be different as the risks appear cumulative." A spokesman for the Family Planning Association added: "This research adds to the jigsaw of information that there is around breast cancer and the Pill. There are all sorts of factors that contribute to breast cancer, including diet, age, lifestyle and smoking. The Pill is one risk in many and its role has not yet been fully established." Other studies have produced a variety of warnings against the Pill. Last year, young women with a family history of breast cancer linked to a faulty gene were warned that taking it for five years or more increased their risk of the disease by a third. A review by the World Health Organisation found that
women who take it for five years or longer may double their chances of
developing cervical cancer. Elsewhere, researchers have associated the
Pill with a higher risk of stroke, particularly if women smoke or have
high blood pressure. But the contraceptive is also known to protect against
fatal cancers of the womb lining and the ovaries. PHILLIP DAY'S COMMENT: All women should acquaint themselves with the dangers of the Pill and so-called menopausal medications foisted upon them. Ignorance of these facts has contributed significantly to breast cancer deaths by the million. in America could be as high as $93 billion annually, with the government
paying about half the amount, according to a study. Close to 65 percent of Americans are either overweight or obese, putting them at an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other illnesses. In the study, researchers compared medical costs for overweight and obese people with the costs for people of normal weight. Overweight is defined as being 10 to 30 pounds over a healthy weight, while obesity is 30 or more pounds over. Findings indicated that annual medical costs for an obese person are about 37.7 percent more, or $732 higher, than the costs for a person of normal weight. Further, an obese person on Medicare costs $1,486 more a year, and an obese person on Medicaid costs $864 more than a person of healthy weight on the same program. Each year, medical spending for overweight and obesity make up about 9.1 percent of the nation's medical costs. Comparatively, spending attributable to smoking makes up from 6.5 percent to 14.4 percent of costs. There is ongoing controversy over whether obesity is an individual's responsibility or a problem for society. According to researchers, since government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, as well as taxpayers, are financing many of the medical costs, obesity is increasingly becoming an issue for society. Moreover, others point out that obesity is still on the rise and if the problem isn't addressed now, the government will be faced with even higher medical costs for obesity in the future. DR. Yet despite efforts to sound the alarm about obesity and related diabetes in the United States, rates of both conditions continue to skyrocket. Most U.S. adults (more than 56 percent) are overweight, about 1 in 5 is obese, and 7.3 percent have diabetes. The prevalence of diabetes could be as high as 10 percent if undiagnosed cases are considered. This is especially tragic as these conditions are nearly 100 percent preventable by following a proper nutrition plan and exercising. It is also important to know that more than one out of every 14 Americans has diabetes. As I mentioned above, that is a full 7.3 percent of the population as a conservative estimate. RESOURCES: Available through www.credence.org Airport Screeners May Get X-Ray Vision By LESLIE MILLER, Associated Press Writer EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Susan Hallowell steps into a metal booth that bounces X-rays off her skin, producing a black-and-white image that reveals enough to produce a world-class blush.
To the eye, she is dressed in a skirt and blazer in dark, business-like colors. On the monitor, the director of the Transportation Security Administration's security laboratory is naked, except for a gun and a bomb that she hid under her outfit. The government is considering using the technology at airport security checkpoints because the magnetometers now in use cannot detect plastic weapons or substances used in explosives. Hallowell is sacrificing her modesty to make a point: Air travelers are not going to like being technologically undressed by security screeners. "It does basically make you look fat and naked — but you see all this stuff," Hallowell said Wednesday during a demonstration of the technology. The technology is called "backscatter" because it scatters X-rays. Doses of rays deflected off dense materials such as metal or plastic produce a darker image than those deflected off skin. The radiation dosage is about the same as sunshine, Hallowell said. Backscatter machines have been available on the market for years. They are priced at between $100,000 and $200,000 and used in all sorts of security situations, from screening families of convicts visiting prisons to South African diamond miners going home for the day. The agency is trying to find a way to modify the machines with an electronic fig leaf — programming that fuzzes out sensitive body parts or distorts the body so it is unrecognizable. Another option might mean stationing the screener in a booth so only he sees the image, said Randal Null, the agency's chief technology officer. Null hopes to conduct pilot programs with backscatter machines at several airports this year. A pilot project at Orlando International Airport in Florida using volunteers met with mixed results, he said. Some volunteers were uncomfortable with it. For others, "It was a whole lot nicer than having someone pat me down," he said. David Sobel, general counsel for the Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington, thinks most people will object to the backscatter technology. "The public is willing to accept a certain amount of scrutiny at the airport, but there are clearly limits to the degree of invasion that is acceptable," Sobel said. "It's hard to understand why something this invasive is necessary." But Rep. John Mica (news, bio, voting record), chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee on aviation, thinks it is essential because of the strong likelihood that a terrorist will try to bomb a plane. "I predict it will happen," said Mica, R-Fla. "The chances of someone bringing an explosive on an aircraft by walking through a metal detector or in hand-carried luggage are very real." Mica pointed out that Richard Reid, convicted of trying to blow up a trans-Atlantic jetliner with explosives in his shoes, walked through metal detectors at Orly Airport in Paris several times before boarding the plane.
For now, Mica is trying to persuade colleagues to require that the transportation agency focus its research on technology that identifies items on people's bodies. Null said the agency's major focus is already on detecting explosives and weapons at airport checkpoints. In the end, the biggest problem with the backscatter machines may be their size, he said. One version, the BodySearch system made by Billerica, Mass.-based American Science & Engineering is about 4-feet by 7-feet by 10-feet — awfully big for an airport lobby, Null said. Another system made by Hawthorne, Calif.-based OSI Systems is more compact. Transportation Security Administration: http://www.tsa.gov A little about 'backscatter' technology It is called 'backscatter' because it uses X-rays that bounce off the subject back to the receiving device rather than receiving the image from the other side of the subject as in a traditional X-ray. The problem is that it is still using X-rays, which are high frequency ionizing radiation. The claim that it is akin to walking out in the sun is silly because the frequency range of this type of radiation is completely different as evidenced in the comments below. -Sheryl McMillan, CTM "You have to be worried about the cumulative dose over time," said Robert Gould, a professor of radiology and bioengineering at the University of California at San Francisco. "You also have to be concerned about skin effects. There is no way you can absolutely say the skin doesn't get anything, and the skin is thought to be radiosensitive." "Other potentially vulnerable body parts include the corneas of the eye and superficial organs, such as the salivary and thyroid glands. Careful studies have not been done," Gould says, "and would be difficult and expensive to carry out in a way that would reassure the traveling public." Scanned images of a man displayed on the American Science & Engineering Web site clearly show hidden weapons. But the outlines of bones in the man's legs are also visible. The model reportedly wore lead underwear for the sake of modesty. Have we been conditioned to the point of allowing

idea of introducing anything like this if it might hurt business. 'Mediterranean Diet' Cuts Heart Attack, Cancer Risk
BOSTON (Reuters) - A study of more than 22,000 Greeks provided further evidence on Wednesday that the "Mediterranean diet" rich in cheese, nuts and olive oil can protect against heart disease and cancer. The study found that people who ate a Mediterranean-style diet had a 33 percent reduction in the risk of death from heart disease and a cancer death rate that was 24 percent lower compared to volunteers who ate other foods. The diet, which varies from country to country, often includes monthly servings of meat and weekly meals of poultry, eggs and sweets. Vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, unrefined cereals, olive oil, cheese and yogurt are eaten most days, as is fish. Wine is consumed in moderation. Although olive oil is widely credited with many of the benefits of the diet, the research team, led by Antonia Trichopoulou of the University of Athens Medical School, found that no specific food in the diet appeared to be responsible for the improvement in health. "Individual components may have small effects that emerge only when the components are integrated into a simple, unidimensional score," the researchers said. In an editorial in Thursday's New England Journal of Medicine (news - web sites), in which the study was published, Frank Hu of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston said specific nutrients or foods in the diet may somehow interact to reduce the risks of cancer and heart disease. CTM COMMENT: The typical Greek cheese spoken of is very different from the typical cheese manufactured in the US and elsewhere. It is mostly Feta and other cheeses made from sheep and goat's milk which differ in major ways to cheeses such as Cheddar made with cow's milk. The typical Greek diet contains a lot less meat than the average diet in much of the Western world. It has also been found, in another study, that this same diet significantly reduces the incidence of rheumatoid arthritis, information known for many years, yet once again, not acted upon. Keep in mind also that the average Greek restaurant found in your local high street is not always a good indicator of a true Greek diet. These restaurants often emphasize the meat dishes and recipes with more fat and butter, etc. in an attempt to appeal to typical local tastes.

The new tumour was excised without skin grafting on 2/5/89.
