CTM Eclub digest version, April 21st 2004

Up Front and Personal
What's new and true with CTM's founder Phillip Day

ECLUB: How's your week off?
PD: I've been busy with my novel.
ECLUB: What's it about?
PD: I could tell you, Brian, but then I'd have to kill you.
ECLUB: Give us a clue.
PD: Historical fiction. It'll be out next year.
ECLUB: So what's happening over the next month?
PD: I'm doing a short tour of my home county, Kent, with a dedicated talk on cancer and how to defeat the menace.
ECLUB: Why just Kent?
PD: It's a pilot to see if we can roll out the format around the country. The marketing is being done a little differently. We must remember that while most in CTM are now familiar with much of our work, in spite of my constant touring and media involvement, 98% of the people in the countries I tour have never heard any of this, including Britain. There is a tremendous amount of work still to be done.
ECLUB: Will the Kent tour attract people from all over?
PD: Inevitably, and I'd like to apologise in advance for those making long journeys to attend. If CTM members around Britain wish to get behind a no-holds-barred, hard-core cancer tour for next year, then I'm definitely up for it.
ECLUB: I hear another film project is in the works.
PD: Yup. We're starting a testimonies film with patients and doctors for use in bringing the message in a spectacular way to the public. More details are in this very bulletin under the article 'Miracles on Film'. Again, if CTM subscribers can get behind this in their own regions, the saving of lives will doubtless be tremendous.
ECLUB: And the gates are now open for your forthcoming tours of Ireland and the USA.
PD: Yes. Can't wait to get to Ireland again. I am doing a more extended tour of the country this time, both north and the Republic.
ECLUB: And the USA?
PD: I love going back to my old home and the people there are just great. We're doing California to Atlanta. Also, I want to ride a horse through the town of Tombstone.
ECLUB: A Bonanza thing.
PD: Of course.
ECLUB: How is your film doing, The Real Face of the European Union?
PD: Tremendous reception. People are finding it's a user-friendly and very convenient way of explaining Britain's predicament to others who do not necessarily have the time nor inclination to flog through a book.
ECLUB: You don't have much time to mow the lawn. Do you sometimes yearn for a normal existence?
PD: There are the highs and lows. Either way, I'm doing what I love best. And I'll keep doing it until either I fall over or win the National Lottery.
ECLUB: You don't play the National Lottery.
PD: Oh, well….

Miracles on Film
A personal message from CTM founder Phillip Day

Dear All,

Credence intends to produce a film of testimonies for public release to show the powerful effects of natural, nutritional medicine on a whole range of illnesses. While testimonies are not of scientific value, they are tremendously important social tools to demonstrate to others real experiences of how serious disease was overcome.

Many write to me of a stubborn old Uncle Jack or other relative in their family 'who just won't listen! Honestly Phillip, I could kill them!' Perhaps if you sat that relative or friend down and they watched a 45-60 minute film with great recovery testimonies from people who look just like them, might that not loosen some bolts?

I have scheduled filming to commence, so let's make the film! We already have outstanding testimonies we can use and doctors willing to participate, but I'm on the lookout for any who have had an experience involving recovery from serious illness using nutritional principles. Your story will not only be a great inspiration to others, it represents an unbeatable opportunity for the hurt and anxiety you personally suffered to be turned into a force for good. We won't be furnishing any of your personal details on film, other than Pat Smith, Kansas, under your handsome/pretty image, and the stage will be yours. Doctors also willing to appear (albeit some of you with your faces blanked out), are invited to contact us. We want to hear from practitioners concerning the nutritional treatments they use to great effect for their patients.

Initially, if you wish to participate, I would be grateful if you could submit by e-mail a one-page account of your experience, which ideally should take the following form:

My name is XXXX
In July 1998 I was diagnosed with XXXXXX
This is what the doctor told me to do.
This is what I decided to do, based on information I received from XXXX.
This is how I am today.
If there was one thing I could tell others watching this film, it would be XXXX.
Finally, my name, address and a contact telephone number you can use to get back to me. I also, in writing, grant Credence permission to use my testimony.
Signed XXXXX

Please send your testimony by e-mail to Credence who will then be in touch to let you know whether we will be visiting your neighbourhood. Alternatively, we will be filming at most of the meetings I am holding for the rest of the year, (US, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore… phew!!). Let us know if you'll be coming so we can film your testimony before the meeting.

It is not beyond the bounds of possibility we will accept home videos from those living in areas where we won't have time to get a crew in. We do want to keep the quality tight though, so let us know whether you would be willing to shoot yourself (cinematically speaking), and we can offer some suggestions on making your contribution a great success.

Please note this film will not be made for commercial gain. It will be great quality (in NTSC, PAL, etc.), lovely music, dignified, erudite, doctors in white coats also explaining the medical rationale. They'll be a nice cover and sturdy box and the product will be cheaply priced to cover costs and a little left over.

That's it! Another mission! Let's get busy and do some good.

MEPs 'Cheating To Get £175 Payout'
by Kate Connolly in Berlin

Hundreds of members of the European Parliament earn thousands of pounds a year extra in allowances for parliamentary sessions that they do not attend, an MEP claims.

Hans-Peter Martin, an Austrian Social Democrat, says he has collected detailed records over the past two years that show how many colleagues habitually enter their names in the parliamentary register but skip the meetings.

For signing the register - on the understanding that they also attend the sessions - the MEPs are legally entitled to a daily allowance of £175.

Many MEPs, Mr Martin alleges, sign the register, which is accessible between 7am and 10pm, before flying home. Others send "front men."

Six Questions and Answers
on the Proposed European Constitution

This leaflet, by CREC, a group of British people from all walks of life, informs you about a vital subject - the attempt to replace the British Constitution with a European Constitution. This will remove many rights we have under our existing Constitution - and will profoundly affect the generation that follows you. Please take a few quiet moments to read it

1. What is the 'European Constitution'?
ANSWER: It is a proposed new set of rules for governing Europe - an attempt to create a 'Euro State'. This will replace the nations of Europe with one huge new nation. Britain has its own Constitution; other countries have theirs. But under the proposed 'European Constitution', Britain and other E.U. countries will no longer have their own constitutions.

2. Why do you say that?
ANSWER: Because they want to take away the rights of nations to make decisions about their own future. This is just some of what they want to put in the European Constitution:
(a) one President for the whole of the European Union
(b) one foreign policy and one defence policy for the whole of the European Union
(c) one Army, Navy and Air Force for the whole of the European Union
(d) one justice system for the whole of the European Union - without jury trial
(e) one currency (the euro) for the whole of the European Union
(f) one taxation system for the whole of the European Union (which means higher taxes)
(g) the E.U. (not Britain) will have legal power to negotiate treaties and trade agreements and represent Britain on world bodies like the U.N., the W.T.O. and the 'G8' countries.
To put it very simply, as a nation we will no longer be able to make key decisions about our future. We will have lost control over matters affecting our prosperity, welfare and safety.

3. Why is that a problem? Surely it's better to be part of a strong Europe? Isn't it time the European nations came together to stop wars happening in the future?
ANSWER: The arguments for being part of a 'strong Europe' are complex. We are already part of the 'common market' - adopting the European Constitution won't change that. The euro hasn't benefited eurozone countries - French unemployment is around 3 million and German unemployment nearing 5 million. Ours remains under 1½ million. We've flourished in the past as an independent nation. The experience of the euro shows that we don't have to give up our independence to succeed in the world. Two World Wars weren't caused by Europe not being united. They happened because an undemocratic German government invaded other countries. There have been many past attempts to create one nation from different cultures. Recent examples were the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia. They broke up as the peoples within them demanded the right to govern themselves - after years of being run by undemocratic governments. We co-operate closely with other European nations already. A single Euro-government would be remoter from the people than it is now. Only politicians really want a European Constitution - they will get more power, influence and money.

4. Are there any real dangers about adopting a European Constitution?
ANSWER: Yes, many. The most fundamental are about the loss of liberty. Under the European Constitution, we will get a uniform justice system with these features:
(a) it will end the right to jury trial. Decisions will be made by paid professional judges, appointed by the European Union
(b) it will end habeas corpus. This is the very precious right we have in this country not to be detained by the Police longer than 24 hours, without being brought before a Court of law where the Police have to prove they have an arguable case
(c) it will in certain cases end the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
These sound legal principles mean a state cannot abuse its power. They've enabled us to be a free people. The European Constitution will permanently end these precious principles. We will lose all control over our right to determine our own future. When British monarchs are crowned, they promise, under oath, to guarantee to preserve the 'laws and customs' of the British people. They will no longer be able to do so under an E.U. Constitution.

A decision to adopt this Constitution is even more important than on whether to adopt the euro. We say simply that the people of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland should have the right to decide this issue - just as the smallest club or society must have a proper vote on whether to change its constitution. A major national debate is needed. The table below shows you some of what we're at risk of throwing away:

British Constitution European Constitution
Right to Jury Trial Jury Trial abolished under 'Corpus Juris'
Police must produce you in Court after holding you for 24 hours Detention without trial for unlimited periods
(again, see the E.U.'s book 'Corpus Juris']
The rights and freedoms Briton have had under British common law for centuries New, repressive, European laws
Decisions made by MPs you can throw out every 5 years Decisions made by unelected Commissioners
who can be appointed for indefinite periods
Parliament with powers to make laws E.U. Parliament has no power to make laws
Annual Budget decided by Parliament Budget decided by Commissioners - and so
badly misspent that the E.U. auditors have
refused to approve their accounts for 8 years
British Armed Forces and Police European Armed Forces and Police
The right to run our own country Decisions made by 25 or more countries
The right to control our own finances Economy run by 25 or more countries who
spend billions of our money each year

5. How do we get your postcards?
ANSWER: Contact us at 'CREC. 32 Station Rd. Poppleton. York YO26 6PY. 01904 795204 or graham.wood03@virgin.net or visit our website at www.european-referendum.org.uk. Every card has a unique number (so we know how many have been sent to the Queen). Prices are 10 for £1.50, 25 for £3.00, 50 for £5, 75 for £6.75 and £8 for 100. Membership of CREC costs £8, including 100 postcards if required. Cheques/P.O.s to CREC please. For bulk rates, e.g. if you are running a special campaign, please contact us.

6. What else can we do about this threat to our Constitution?
ANSWER: Please pass this leaflet to a relative, friend or work colleague, or copy it and send it to others. Consider ordering more postcards and try to encourage people you know to send them off. If hundreds of thousands of people post these cards to the Queen, the government may get the message and concede a referendum. Another step you can take is to 'phone your MP. You can do this any weekday by 'phoning 0207 219 3000. Ask your MP "Will you be voting for us to have a referendum on the European Constitution - Yes or No?"

Why I am Going to the European Court
by Daniel Hannan MEP

Let me choose my words with care. Whenever I raise this subject, I get deluged with angry letters saying that I am comparing the EU to a Stalinist autocracy, and thereby insulting the millions who died in the gulags.

So I want to be clear. Whatever grievances we have against Brussels, it is plainly not a tyranny. It does not refuse to let us travel abroad, or throw us into prison camps without trial. Its constituent member states are all liberal democracies.

None the less, something is happening in the European Parliament which can only be called dictatorial. Some months ago, the EU decided that, in order to bolster our sense of European identity, we needed trans-national political parties. These parties would be funded by the taxpayer, and would have to meet various criteria in order to qualify. They would need, for example, to win a minimum level of support in at least seven countries. They would need to contest elections across Europe as a whole, on a common and binding manifesto. And, critically, they would have to sign up to European values as set out in the EU treaties.

This may sound innocuous enough, but I believe it is one of the most sinister proposals to have crossed my desk since I was elected five years ago. In fact, I am going to court to try to block it. I and 25 other MEPs are funding our own legal action against the proposal, arguing that it is incompatible with the EU's stated commitment to democracy and pluralism. For the effect of this law would be to bar Euro-sceptic political parties.

It would do so in two ways. First, non-federalist parties are more likely to see themselves in national terms. They are therefore unlikely to want to merge themselves into pan-European movements. More immediately, though, they would be debarred by the requirement that they accept the values of the EU's Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms - not because they object to human rights, but because they believe that delicate questions of this kind should be settled by elected national parliamentarians rather than unelected European judges.

Supporters of the legislation rush to reassure me that mainstream Euro-sceptics, such as the British Tories, have nothing to fear. It is aimed only at far-Right groups, they say, such as Le Pen's National Front. But once we decide that some views may be placed off limits, where do we draw the line?

The idea that some parties are more equal than others is at odds with the principle of democracy. A free electoral system implies that people should be allowed to vote for anyone they like; and that their representatives, once elected, should be able to come together in any combinations they please. How they behave ought to be between them and their voters. If an MP expresses noxious views, it should be for his constituents to pass judgment on him. Taking this duty from them does not only traduce the democratic principle; it also infantilises the electorate.

One of my friends in the European parliament is a Polish MP. He has been here for the better part of a year, as one of the observers from the accession countries who are allowed to participate, but not vote, in the run-up to their countries' formal admission. When he saw the proposed statute on European political parties, he went white with anger.

"This is exactly what the Communists did in Poland," he told me. "They didn't ban elections: we had elections all the time. They didn't even ban opposition parties, at least not by the 1970s. All they did was to ban the opposition parties from contesting the elections. And do you know what their official excuse was? Exactly the same as this. They said it was to stop fascist parties. Only pretty soon that came to apply to everyone except the Communists and their Agrarian allies".

Unsurprisingly, several Poles are among those who are supporting the legal action against the proposal. They know exactly where you can end up once you start banning certain points of view. Consider my friend's experience. He is my age, having entered politics, like me, in his late twenties. He has a baby daughter, the same age as mine. He is a conservative and a free-marketeer. But he might have grown up in a different world.

His father had defected to Canada when he was a young boy. They contrived to meet once, in the 1980s in Cuba, the only country to which they were both able to travel. My friend's father tried to persuade his son to come and live in the West. My friend replied that he wanted to serve Poland: he thought that change was in the air, and he dreamed of sitting as a conservative and a patriot in a free Sejm. A few years later, he fulfilled his dream, but his father never got to see it. The old man had died shortly before travel restrictions were lifted, and the two had never had the chance to meet again.

Mercifully, Prodi's EU is not Jaruszelski's Poland. But it is saddens me that so few people seem perturbed by the principle of what is being proposed. Too many MEPs and Commissioners are gripped by a "Europe right or wrong" attitude which leads them to see freedom, democracy and the rule of law itself as subservient to the greater goal of European integration. That we are discarding the concept of political pluralism is seen as a small price to pay for dishing the sceptics.

Five years in politics is enough to have taught me that court cases are expensive and uncertain. I am not embarking on this one lightly. But, on certain issues, we simply have to make a stand, whatever the cost. If not, what are we doing here?

Europe 'Wants Warning Signs on Mountains'

A bizarre new law from Europe could see warning signs being placed on mountains to let climbers know they are high up. The EU regulation is aimed at preventing people falling on building sites, but Scotland's professional mountain leaders believe they will also have to conform.

Due to be implemented in July, the working at height regulations will require building sites to display a number of safety warnings and to introduce back-up systems. Tory MEP Jonathan Evans, leading a campaign in the European Parliament against the regulations, believes teams could have to display signs warning that mountains are high.

"This is madness - most people know that when they climb a mountain, they will be up high," he said.

Roger Wild, safety officer for the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, said: "What we would really like is an exemption which would apply to adventurous activities."

The Health and Safety Executive has said it will carry out a consultation exercise with the mountaineering community to assess the situation.

A spokeswoman for the HSE said: "The issues about displaying signs refer to an industrial setting and not to the natural environment, and the HSE will address the mountaineering community's concerns."

This is hardly the first time a seemingly absurd rule or regulation has hit the headlines, so the AOL News team has rounded up a selection of the best stories - both true and false...

Bananas Must Not Be Excessively Curved
The European Commission's own Web site appears to confirm the truth of this famous Sun headline, explaining that common standards for size and quality were adopted across the EU in 1994.

EU Bans Skateboards as Air Risk
Anyone who has flown since September 11 will be aware of the tough new security rules, but many thought this was overkill. The justification was that skateboards are potential weapons because some have sharp edges.

Town Bans Hanging Baskets
Prize-winning flower enthusiasts in Bury St Edmunds were prevented by the council from hanging pots from many of the town's most scenic lampposts.

Cucumbers Must Be Straight
There may be no European law on the subject, but supermarkets no longer seem to sell curved cucumbers. This may be because grading rules have been set up to allow traders to buy produce unseen from abroad.

Council Targets Trees Over Conkers Fear
Norwich City Council wanted to cut down 20 horse chestnut trees in one road in order to protect people from being hit by falling conkers - and to save on mess.

EU Rules Could Force Firms to Consult on Tea Bags
The Tories claim companies might have to ask workers what brand of tea bags and what colour carpet they would like. The jury is still out on how much truth there is to it.

Kids Banned From Helping on Milk Rounds
Intended to protect young people in the workplace, this caused outrage from milkmen. It was described as "an attack on the British way of life".

Donkey Ride Hard Hats Ruling
Arun District Council ruled children must wear hard hats while taking donkey rides on the beach at Bognor Regis, in case they fell off.

Truckers' Fry-ups Under Threat
Not strictly true, this story stemmed from EU attempts to train professional drivers in safety and health. The EU denies there are any moves to make it compulsory for truckers to have muesli and fruit for their breakfast.

Cancer: Who Can You Trust?
by Phillip Day

It is with great pleasure that I write to introduce this month's CTM EClub. However I do so with the marked poignancy that the chief pillars of the information we have been sharing in this series have been in the public domain in excess of fifty years and remain largely unheeded by our medical experts, many of whom are, as ever, fixated on the cure of cancer rather than its prevention. The aim of my organisation, Credence, is to report research that has failed to make its vital and prominent appearance either in the medical literature or through the mass communications media because of political or economic constraints, such as they are perceived. The purpose EClub is to encourage the re-education of the public and its physicians on cancer in all its forms, and thereby encourage and engender no more or less a goal than the total eradication of cancer in societies where this scourge is epidemic. To accomplish this with a high degree of success, three areas of education and action need to be urgently addressed: that of what cancer actually is, how to prevent it, and lastly, how to eradicate it in current patients, howsoever late-term in their illness.

The answers to many diseases previously fatal to mankind came through the age-old study of what worked and what didn't. This is the very nature and essence of science, or knowledge gained. Backroom boys fooling around in the lab, trying stuff out, blowing holes in the ceiling, learning from their successes and failures. Aye, as Shakespeare would remark, but here's the rub. History has shown a marked trend in human pride where, on more than one occasion, man has overlooked, fudged, prejudiced and, perhaps more significantly, ignored the obvious and unprofitable in favour of his often frenzied search for the answer within the technical and the brilliant, thereby increasing his own stature within his noble profession, earning himself the approbation of his peers.

Leo Tolstoy astutely observed: "I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth, if it would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives."

Knowledge is a pride thing. Always has been.

Read EClub and you will find comprehensive technical references on a series of key nutritional treatments for cancer, complete with their total scientific justifications, which have been largely embargoed by traditional medicine in their search for the ephemeral technical and patentable answers to cancer. EClub is not just for the public, but also for physicians, practitioners and scientists whose brave colleagues directly and indirectly contributed to such ground-breaking work. The fact that this information has to come from a published source other than those provided by accepted medical journals, speaks volumes on just how political and economic an animal cancer has become.

At Credence, our job has been to draw together the myriad research that has sprung from mankind's honest desire to eliminate from its cultures a disease that has destroyed millions. The fact that this information has been a matter of public knowledge for decades, and yet has not made it into general oncological practice, is perhaps one of the greatest scandals in medical and social history. The political and socio-economical reasons why this has happened, and continues to happen to this day, are discussed in some detail in my book Cancer: Why We're Still Dying to Know the Truth.

And so, welcome to the third of our four-part series: Cancer, Who Can We Trust?

Cancer Boy's Parents Win 'Amputation' Fight
by Michel Leidig

German Court Rules against social services in favour of couple who want to use alternative therapy to treat their son's disease

A couple who lost custody of their young son to social services after insisting that his bone cancer was treated using alternative medicine last week won a lengthy legal battle to get him back.

Dominik Feld, 9, became a cause celebre in Germany after his parents, Josef and Anke, defied a leading oncologist's advice that their son's right leg should be amputated if they wanted to save his life and stop the disease spreading.

When the specialist, Dr Heribert Jurgens, also warned that Dominik had a less than one-in-five chance of survival with chemotherapy, the Felds decided to pursue "cell therapy" treatment instead, involving high doses of vitamins and minerals.

Perturbed, Dr Jurgens tipped off officials from Germany's social services, who decided that the Felds were not acting in Dominik's best interests. In November 2003, they obtained a court order to remove the boy from his parents' custody. The order prompted a heated debate in Germany over parental rights, particularly as Dominik's cancer seemed to improve while he was receiving the cell therapy treatment.

While the Felds, from Siegen in central Germany, appealed against the decision, protesters staged rallies outside the high court in Koblenz each time a hearing was set. A family petition attracted more than 30,000 signatures. Donations from supporters helped to fund their appeal and temporary injunctions brought by the Felds to ensure that the cell therapy continued.

During the five-month legal tussle, which culminated in last week's victory in the high court, Dominik remained in hospital, officially in the care of social services. The amputation was postponed.

Last week Mrs Feld, 38, told The Sunday Telegraph: "We are delighted - but the best gift of all will be when Dominik returns to full health. We are not against conventional medicine, nor in favour of unproven alternative medicine, but when there are medically proven alternatives from qualified professionals, we believe it is the right and duty of parents to choose what they want for their child," she said. "The conventional treatment we were offered had a less than 20 per cent chance of success and as a result we had no alternative but to look for something that would give our son a better chance of survival."

Mr Feld, 41, a mechanical engineer, said: "The whole family is delighted about the court decision. Dominik had his ninth birthday on Monday and this was the best birthday and Easter present we could hope for. We have had the catheters removed that were used for chemotherapy this week. We won't need them any more, although the cell therapy is continuing."

The Felds, who also have four daughters aged five to 17, realised that Dominik was ill in September 2002. "The bottom fell out of our world," said Mrs Feld. He had been playing football and fell badly and hurt his leg. "When we took him to the hospital they thought it was broken and put his leg in a cast. He was in a lot of pain and when he was examined in more detail they discovered the cancer."

Dr Jurgens, a specialist at Munster University Hospital, claimed that the osteosarcoma in Dominik's right leg was too advanced for treatment to be worthwhile, and insisted that only amputation would save his life. Dr Jurgens also said that the cancer had spread to his lungs and that strong doses of chemotherapy were necessary.

The Felds agreed to the chemotherapy but watched their son grow progressively weaker and his weight fall to just 35lb. Seeking a second opinion, they heard about a method pioneered by Dr Matthew Rath, an alternative health "guru" who is a qualified doctor but prefers to promote natural cures for his patients. In this treatment, cancerous tissues could be removed from bone marrow - avoiding the need for amputation - and the cell therapy substituted for chemotherapy.

Mrs Feld said that they were just in time to stop the amputation. "We looked everywhere for an alternative and it was only at the last minute, with hours to go before the operation, that we were told a hospital in Munich believed that they could operate to remove the tumour and save the leg," she said. "That was in December 2002. We allowed him to continue on chemotherapy but stopped it in May last year. After allowing him to regain his strength, we started him on the cell therapy in June."

The Felds later received a letter from social services warning them that Munster University felt that Dominik was not being treated properly. Their right to care for their son was subsequently removed.

Dr Rath who helped the Felds with their "Save Dominik" campaign, maintains that under his care the boy's condition has improved.

"The X-ray CT (computed tomography) images of Dominik's lungs speak for themselves," Dr Rath said. "The lung metastases present one year ago have completely vanished. It is, therefore, clear that cancer is curable by natural means."

He said he had no doubt that Dominik would beat his cancer if his parents agreed to their son continuing the cell therapy.

Dr Jurgens, however, has served Dr Rath with a court order barring him from calling him a "drug industry lackey" and dismissed Dr Rath's claims that Dominik's health has improved.

"The truth of the matter is that a patient appears to be doing better when in fact the cancer is spreading. It is simply that the symptoms appear to have ameliorated somewhat," he said. "But that does not change the long-term prognosis, nor does it mean that therapy ought to be set aside."

The family remains optimistic. Dominik says he feels better when treated with cell therapy and wants to carry on with it. His parents point out that the cancer removed from Dominik's leg during surgery has not returned.

"We are not capable of seeing the future, but we are very optimistic," said Mr Feld.

"There are no traces of the cancer in his lungs and although there are still cancer cells in his blood, they are no longer active. From now on, it's just a question of waiting - and of hope."

The Trouble with
Industrially Stored Grains
by Phillip Day

Doug Kaufmann is author of the book The Germ that Causes Cancer. In it, he explains the much understated problem of the contamination of our industrially stored grains by potent moulds, fungi and their associated mycotoxin discharges and why they should be strictly avoided. Most governments only scan for the most dangerous of these, like aflatoxin, thought to be one of the most carcinogenic substances on earth. One study showed that, via a typically grain-predominant diet, a citizen could expect to ingest from 0.15 g to 0.5 g of aflatoxin per day.

Antibiotics are often made from mycotoxins (viz. penicillin) and are well known for disrupting the delicate gut flora balance, creating dysbiosis. For many patients with cancer, the fungal problems will be obvious, many of these sufferers with a history of antibiotic use prior to being diagnosed with cancer. Dr Joseph Mercola states: "Mycotoxins cause a wide range of health problems in humans when we are exposed to small amounts over an extended period of time, and can even be lethal if taken in large quantities over a short period of time. Given the large number of diseases linked to mycotoxins, and our tendency to eat a large amount of grains in our typical [Western] diet, this is a very concerning problem. As Dr Holland states, grains are sources of carbohydrates, or sugars, and as such, they risk contamination by certain fungi. These fungi produce secondary metabolites, or mycotoxins."

Historically, grains have produced some quite wild reactions, such as in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, when 13 women and six men were executed for witchcraft after some citizens in the town went 'barking mad', probably due to poisoning by the rye fungus, ergot (St Anthony's Fire). LSD was first synthesised by Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman of Sandoz Laboratories in 1938, who was studying the hallucinogenic properties of ergot. Hoffman's revolutionary new kaleidoscopic trip was to skew the perceptions of an entire generation to come in the swinging sixties and beyond.

To illustrate the difficulties grains are causing humans, Dr David Holland elaborates on the top ten mycotoxin foods society routinely munches with alacrity with little or no appreciation for the cumulative downside:

1. Alcoholic beverages
Alcohol is the mycotoxin of the Saccharomyces yeast - brewer's yeast. Other mycotoxins besides alcohol can also be introduced into these beverages through the use of mold-contaminated grains and fruits. Producers often use grains that are too contaminated with fungi and mycotoxins to be used for table foods, so the risk is higher that you are consuming more than just alcohol in your beverage (Council for Agricultural Science and technology. Mycotoxins: Economic and Health Risks. Task Force Report Number 116. CAST. Ames, IA. Nov 1989). Before you drink for the health of your heart, consider the other possible risks of drinking. There are safer ways of consuming antioxidants.

2. Corn
Corn is "universally contaminated" with fumonisin and other fungal toxins such as aflatoxin, zearalenone and ochratoxin (Council for Agricultural Science and Technology. Mycotoxins: Risks in Plant, Animal and Human Systems. Task Force Report No. 139. Ames, IA. Jan 2003). Fumonisin and aflatoxin are known for their cancer-causing effects, while zearalenone and ochratoxin cause estrogenic and kidney-related problems respectively. Just as corn is universally contaminated with mycotoxins, our food supply seems to be universally contaminated with corn -- it's everywhere! A typical chicken nugget at a fast food restaurant consists of a nugget of corn-fed chicken that is covered by a corn-based batter that is sweetened with corn syrup!

3. Wheat
Not only is wheat often contaminated with mycotoxins, but so are the products made from wheat, like breads, cereals, pasta, etc. Pasta may be the least-"offensive" form of grains since certain water-soluble mycotoxins, such as deoxynivalenol (vomitoxin), are partially removed and discarded when you toss out the boiling water that you cooked the pasta in. Unfortunately, traces of the more harmful, heat-stable and fat-soluble mycotoxins, such as aflatoxin, remain in the grain. Regarding breads -it probably doesn't matter if it's organic, inorganic, sprouted, blessed or not - if it came from a grain that has been stored for months in a silo, it stands the chance of being contaminated with fungi and mycotoxins.

4. Barley
Similar to other grains that can be damaged by drought, floods and harvesting and storage processes, barley is equally susceptible to contamination by mycotoxin-producing fungi. Barley is used in the production of various cereals and alcoholic beverages.

5. Sugar (sugar cane and sugar beets)
Not only are sugar cane and sugar beets often contaminated with fungi and their associated fungi, but they, like the other grains, fuel the growth of fungi. Fungi need carbohydrates - sugars - to thrive.

6. Sorghum
Sorghum is used in a variety of grain-based products intended for both humans and animals. It is also used in the production of alcoholic beverages.

7. Peanuts
A 1993 study demonstrated 24 different types of fungi that colonized the inside of the peanuts used in the report (Costantini, A. Etiology and Prevention of Atherosclerosis. Fungalbionics Series.1998/99). And this was after the exterior of the peanut was sterilized! So, when you choose to eat peanuts, not only are you potentially eating these molds, but also their mycotoxins. Incidentally, in the same study the examiners found 23 different fungi on the inside of corn kernels. That said, if you choose to plant your own garden in an attempt to avoid mycotoxin contamination of corn or peanuts, it does you no good if the seed (kernel) used to plant your garden is already riddled with mold.

8. Rye
The same goes for rye as for wheat and other grains. In addition, when we use wheat and rye to make bread, we add two other products that compound our fungal concerns: sugar and yeast!

9. Cottonseed
Cottonseed is typically found in the oil form (cottonseed oil), but is also used in the grain form for many animal foods. Many studies show that cottonseed is highly and often contaminated with mycotoxins.

10. Hard Cheeses
Here's a hint: if you see mold growing throughout your cheese, no matter what you paid for it, there's a pretty good chance that there's a mycotoxin not far from the mold. It is estimated that each fungus on Earth produces up to three different mycotoxins. The total number of mycotoxins known to date numbers in the thousands. On the other hand, some cheeses, such as Gouda cheese, are made with yogurt-type cultures, like Lactobacillus, and not fungi (Costantini, 1998/99). These cheeses are a much healthier alternative, fungally speaking.

Naturally, with this list coming from a group that opposes eating food that is merely contaminated with fungi, we'd certainly oppose eating the fungus itself! That would include common table mushrooms and so-called myco-protein food products [quorn].

Other foods that could potentially make our list are rice, oats and beans, given that these too are sources of carbohydrates. And occasionally food inspectors will come across a batch of mold-contaminated rice or oats. However, all other things being equal, these crops are generally more resistant to fungal contamination (CAST 1989).

CONCLUSION
Grains break down into glucose in the body and fuel fungal growth. All nutritional regimens for cancer should therefore make a point of ostracising these foods from the patient's diet. In the resources below, I give full dietary recommendations along with a comprehensive list of potent, natural anti-fungal materials that are being widely used against cancers today.

The Real Health Scare

CTM Comment: Recently the UK's Daily Telegraph published an Opinion entitled 'The Real Health Scare', wherein alternative approaches to disease were given the usual panning. Here, one CTM member certainly felt the newspaper had simply gone a pill too far.

Sir,

Your leading article on 21 March could hardly have been more inaccurate had that been the intention. Your own scientific correspondent, Robert Matthews, has drawn attention to the totally unscientific nature of the testing of drugs - particularly on animals. Dr James Le Fanu has written on food supplements "it is surprising that nutritionists are better informed on these matters than we medical doctors". Dr Sarah Brewster often gives informed comment on "alternatives". Perhaps the most damning statement in your columns on the uncertainties of allopathic medicine was that revealed by Dr Julian Kenyon that an increasing number of oncologists and other doctors, while happily recommending chemotherapy to their patients, will run a mile rather than use it on themselves or their families.

Vernon Coleman MD states that more than 50% of pharmaceutical drugs are positively harmful with overall medicine doing "more harm than good" and iatrogenic disorders are now very high on the list of factors causing premature death. Matthias Rath MD claims that only 2% of medical drugs are proven to be beneficial. A recent issue of the British Medical Association Journal claims that only 6% of the claims made in drug information leaflets issued by pharmaceutical companies (and on which doctors rely for prescribing) have any scientific basis whatsoever. The work of the late Max Gerson MD, who Albert Schweitzer MD considered "one of the most eminent geniuses in medical history", has been quite deliberately suppressed. The late Mendelsohn MD considered that only 10% of allopathic medical procedures were of proven value.

While I accept the premise that "anecdotes make bad science", I have myself benefited dramatically from "alternatives" when all "conventional" means have failed. And the same applies to many members of my family and many friends.

People spend money on alternatives because they work when conventional medicine fails them. Given the same genuine freedom of choice that exists in food, housing, and clothing (all more important than medicine), then there would be an enormous increase in the use of alternatives and a reduction of allopathic usage. Conventional medical resources would then be released for what is does best.

The great majority of "dis-ease" arises anyway from lifestyle choices like poor nutrition, lack of exercise and abuse of recreational drugs. To encourage the belief that a "pill" will somehow reverse this is pernicious indeed. Another of your columnists, Dr Dalrymple, has pointed out that doctors are often under irresistible pressure to prescribe drugs when they know they are useless because that is what the patients demand and doctors will suffer verbal abuse - even physical attack - if they do not comply.

GM Giant Abandons Bid to Grow Crops in Britain
By Andrew Clennell

In a huge blow to the genetically modified food lobby, Bayer Cropscience has given up attempts to grow commercial GM maize in Britain.

The decision, blamed by the company on government restrictions, means no GM crop will be grown commercially in the UK in 2005 and raises questions about the future of GM in this country.

The German biotechnology company will announce today that its maize variety Chardon LL, which was to be developed as cattle feed, had been left "economically non-viable" because of conditions set by the Environment Secretary Margaret Beckett when she gave limited approval to the growing of the crop this month.

A spokesman for the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said last night: "We do not apologise for the fact there is a tough EU-wide regulatory regime on GMs. This is a commercial decision made by Bayer and they have decided to withdraw their application, [which means] there will not be any commercial cultivation of GM crops in 2005 in the UK. In the current climate in the EU, with member states' strong views on these matters, there's little prospect of any GM crops coming forward for consideration in the near future. We always said it would be for the market to decide [the future of GM]."

There were suggestions last night that GM crops were unlikely to be grown in the UK until 2008, when GM oil seed rape may be approved for cultivation.

Bayer's decision will be seen as a huge win for the former environment minister Michael Meacher and green groups.

Chardon LL, which Bayer had wanted to commercially grow, was developed for approval in 1999. It is already grown in the Netherlands.

A Bayer spokesman confirmed the imminent withdrawal of its application to grow in the UK last night. The company told The Financial Times the UK's tough GM regulatory regime could jeopardise the industry. It said: "New regulations should enable GM crops to be grown in the UK - not disable future attempts to grow them."

Chardon LL gained approval after trials showed it caused less damage to wildlife than its conventional equivalent, but ministers have not yet decided rules for mixing GM and non-GM crops and what compensation might be paid for contamination by GM pollen.

Bayer said: "These uncertainties and undefined timelines will make this five-year-old variety economically unviable."

Only three weeks ago in parliament, Ms Beckett controversially announced her decision to allow Bayer to go ahead with its maize project. The decision came after 15 years of field trials and four years of farm-scale evaluations.

Ms Beckett told the Commons the GM maize could be grown as soon as next year and said non-GM farmers who suffered financial losses because of crop contamination would be compensated by the industry, not the taxpayer.

At the time, Mr Meacher said: "This is the wrong decision. It is driven by the commercial interests of the big biotech companies and, no doubt, pressure from the White House."
The Independent (UK), 31st March 2004

PHILLIP DAY'S COMMENT: No time for complacency. GM crops are still being tested in Britain at various sites around the country. Almost all soya imported from the world's biggest factory (America) is GM-modified. The technique used by the large agri-corps to sell their baleful technology is the old saw of inevitability. 'It's the future, you foolish, superstitious people. Get on board with it.'

Don't take that bus.

Aspartame Lawsuits Accuse
Many Companies of Poisoning the Public

Defendants in the lawsuits include Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Bayer Corp., the Dannon Company, William Wrigley Jr. Company, ConAgra Foods, Wyeth, Inc., The NutraSweet Company, and Altria Corp. (parent company of Kraft Foods and Philip Morris) and WalMart, and others.

SACRAMENTO-- April 6th, Lawsuits were filed in three separate California courts against twelve companies who either produce or use the artificial sweetener aspartame as a sugar substitute in their products. The suits were filed in Shasta, Sonoma and Butte County, California.

The suits allege that the food companies committed fraud and breach of warranty by marketing products to the public such as diet Coke, diet Pepsi, sugar free gum, Flintstone's vitamins, yogurt and children's aspirin with the full knowledge that aspartame, the sweetener in them, is neurotoxic.

Aspartame is a drug masquerading as an additive. It interacts with other drugs, has a synergistic and additive effect with MSG, and is a chemical hyper-sensitization agent. As far back as 1970, Dr. John Olney founded the field of neuroscience called excitotoxicity when he did studies on aspartic acid, which makes up 40% of aspartame, and found it caused lesions in the brains of mice. He made world news on the aspartame/brain tumor connection in 1996. Dr. Ralph Walton, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine has written of the behavioral and psychiatric problems triggered by aspartame-caused depletion of serotonin.

Aspartame causes headache, memory loss, seizures, vision loss, coma and cancer. It worsens or mimics the symptoms of such diseases and conditions as fibromyalgia, MS, lupus, ADD, diabetes, Alzheimer's, chronic fatigue and depression.

Aspartame liberates free methyl alcohol. The resulting chronic methanol poisoning affects the dopamine system of the brain causing addiction. Methanol, or wood alcohol, constitutes one-third of the aspartame molecule and is classified as a severe metabolic poison and narcotic.

Recent news is full of reports of world-class athletes and other healthy consumers of aspartame suddenly dropping dead. Sudden death can occur from aspartame use because it damages the cardiac conduction system.

Dr. Woodrow Monte in the peer reviewed journal, Aspartame: Methanol and the Public Health, wrote: "When diet sodas and soft drinks, sweetened with aspartame, are used to replace fluid loss during exercise and physical exertion in hot climates, the intake of methanol can exceed 250 mg/day or 32 times the Environmental Protection Agency's recommended limit of consumption for this cumulative poison."

The effects of aspartame are documented by the FDA's own data. In 1995 the agency was forced, under the Freedom Of Information Act, to release a list of ninety-two aspartame symptoms reported by thousands of victims. This is only the tip of the iceberg. H. J. Roberts, MD, published the medical text "Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic" -- 1,000 pages of symptoms and diseases triggered by this neurotoxin including the sordid history of its approval.

Since its discovery in 1965, controversy has raged over the health risks associated with the sugar substitute. From laboratory testing of the chemical on rats, researchers have discovered that the drug induces brain tumors. On Sept 30, 1980 the Board of Inquiry of the FDA concurred and denied the petition for approval. In 1981, the newly appointed FDA Commissioner, Arthur Hull Hayes, ignored the negative ruling and approved aspartame for dry goods. As recorded in the Congressional Record of 1985, then CEO of Searle Laboratories Donald Rumsfeld said that he would call in his markers to get aspartame approved. Rumsfeld was on President Reagan's transition team and a day after taking office appointed Hayes. No FDA Commissioner in the previous sixteen years had allowed aspartame on the market.

In 1983, aspartame was approved for use in carbonated beverages. Today it is found in over 5,000 foods, drinks and medicines.

Neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, MD, author of "Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills" (www.russellblaylockmd.com) wrote about the relationship between aspartame and macular degeneration, diabetic blindness and glaucoma (all known to result from excitotoxin accumulation in the retina).

All of these neurodegenerative diseases are worsened by aspartame. In addition, we now have evidence that excitotoxins play a major role in exacerbation of MS and other demyelinating disorders including trigeminal neuraliga. Blaylock says that new studies show excitotoxins trigger significant elevation of free radicals in the lining (endothelial cells) of arteries, which means that aspartame will increase the incidence of heart attacks and strokes (atherosclerosis).

In original studies, aspartame has triggered brain, mammary, uterine, ovarian, testicular, thyroid and pancreatic tumors.

Plaintiffs have asked for an injunction to stop companies from producing, manufacturing, processing, selling or using aspartame.

Plaintiffs in all three cases are seeking a jury trial.
World Natural Health Organization, www.wnho.net

PHILLIP DAY'S COMMENT: Remember, folks. There is no such thing as a sugar substitute. If you are addicted to sugar, you are not solving the problem especially by switching to aspartame and saccharin, any more than you solve a drink problem by switching to vodka. YOU HAVE A SUGAR ADDICTION! Ask yourself a simple question: Can I go without sugar, biscuits, cakes, bread (contains sugar), alcohol and soft drinks for the next four weeks and not have a serious problem with that? If the answer's no, and you also have a history of antibiotic use and bowel/fungal problems, we know who it is within you that wants all the sugar.

The Fluoride Action Network
Fan Campaign Bulletin 12: A little victory in Australia
March 25, 2004.

Dear All,

Here is a short news item forwarded to us by NYSCOF@aol.com. How come a small town in Australia has worked out that sodium fluoride is a poisonous substance but the mighty US FDA has not?

Paul Connett

Ballina Council Rejects Fluoride

After almost 40 years of providing fluoride to the shire's residents northern NSW's Ballina council is recommending that it scrap the service.

Since 1965 the council has offered fluoride in one form or another. But new legislation now classifies fluoride as a poison.

Ballina's manager of water and sewerage, Phil Warner, says it is time stop the practice because the council is no longer authorised to hand out fluoride.

"The council has been providing fluoride to the community over the counter for many years now, but in tablet form and also in drop form," Mr Warner said. "Basically fluoride is now considered a poisonous substance."

If You're Suffering From a Medical Problem Caused by Soy, you May Now be Able to Take Legal Action!

The Weston A. Price Foundation is undertaking a new initiative to investigate instances and arrange possible legal assistance for individuals who believe that they or their child may have suffered serious physical or medical consequences as a result of ingesting one or more products containing soy.

A growing body of credible medical and dietary research suggests that soy products may cause adverse medical and developmental conditions in susceptible persons, especially children -- who in some instances may be affected by soy products consumed either by themselves (for instance, in baby formula) or by their mothers prior to giving birth.

The Weston A. Price Foundation is exploring the causal connection between soy and various serious conditions --in the list below. They have also sought out competent attorneys in the United States and elsewhere, who may develop medical evidence in a number of these cases to pursue damages or other appropriate remedies against the manufacturers and sellers of soy products.

If you would like to participate in these efforts, you are urged to contact the Weston A. Price Foundation at westonaprice_soy@verizon.net. Upon receipt of your e-mail, you will be forwarded via e-mail with attachments, a questionnaire and release form. You are urged to complete the questionnaire, fully and honestly, to the best of your ability. Also, please sign and return the medical authorization(s) along with the questionnaire, in the event possible relevant medical records are needed in those cases that warrant further investigation. Mailing address and fax number will be provided to you with the questionnaire.

Pease be advised that not all of these potential claims can or will be pursued, even if it has been determined that you or your child may have suffered some adverse effects from the consumption of soy products. It may be too late under applicable state laws to pursue some claims; and in other cases, the parties responsible for your condition may not be adequately identified, or the recoverable damages may not warrant pursuit of the responsible parties.

However, if you would like a preliminary investigation of the circumstances of your potential claim, without cost or obligation to you, then promptly contact westonaprice_soy@verizon.net. By taking these steps you may receive assistance in this matter, if your inquiry develops evidence of corporate responsibility for your medical problems or those of your child.

Please forward this e-mail to anyone you think may have an interest, including other e-mail lists that you belong to.

DR. MERCOLA'S COMMENT: Finally, there may be legal repercussions that could be taken against the dangerous effects of the once thought "healthy" food, soy. I have posted several articles in the past (www.mercola.com) detailing the various dangers of soy products. Unfortunately, one of the biggest problems with the widespread acceptance of soy is the billions of advertising dollars of influence in the edible oil industry, that is involved with heavily promoting soy's use in the natural medical circles, so its use can be then promoted in the general medical public.

They have even been able to fool otherwise knowledgeable natural medicine doctors.

These actions by Weston A. Price Foundation are huge in not only addressing the growing epidemic of people suffering from reactions from taking soy products, but also allowing them to explore possible legal assistance.

I have a lot of faith in the Weston A. Price foundation and in their lobbying efforts to warn other consumers against the dangers of modern soy food and their goal to get soy formula taken off the shelves in the marketplace.

If soy products have adversely affected you or if you know of anybody who has consumed a lot of soy and has experienced negative side effects, I would strongly encourage that you read this article and then take the appropriate steps to begin a preliminary investigation of your circumstances and potential claim.

The Great Childhood Maddening
by Phillip Day

"Every child in America entering school at the age of five is insane because he comes to school with certain allegiances to our founding fathers, towards our elected officials, towards his parents, towards a belief in a supernatural being, and towards the sovereignty of this nation as a separate entity. It's up to you as teachers to make all these sick children well - by creating the international child of the future." - Psychiatrist Chester M Pierce, Harvard University, addressing teachers at a 1973 Childhood International Education Seminar

"I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." - Thomas Jefferson

"If you tolerate this, then your children will be next." - The Manic Street Preachers

The sleepy September day in Greenwood, South Carolina, meandered peacefully as James Wilson loads the small .22 calibre shells into his rifle and works the bolt, driving the first tiny bullet into the breach. Minutes later the 19-year-old walks into the elementary school cafeteria and begins shooting screaming children and a teacher, before working his way through the school, systematically selecting his targets. He kicks open the door to a girls' restroom, where he shoots another teacher, moving next to a third-grade classroom, where he shoots more children. Two children die and seven are wounded in the killing spree.

James' senseless and chillingly unemotional act shocked the world. How could someone do such a thing? Schoolyard shootings, increasingly bizarre and horrifying street murders and drug violence had been increasing since the 1970's in America, and people were at a loss to know why. Wasn't there something other-worldly and, well, frankly demonic about such a scene of carnage, set in the heart of one of the safest zones in society - our schools?

THE CIRCUS SPECTACLE
Violence in society is of course nothing new. Back in Nero's day, the popular sport was setting light to Christians or watching criminals torn apart by wild animals in the arenas. Hangings, impalings, crucifixions and various executions down through the ages drew large crowds. The French Revolution was extremely popular for those women who used to knit in front of the guillotine, making their garments all the while experiencing the bloody executions of unfortunates right before them. Yet, although violence perpetrated by rulers in the past was ubiquitous, it is interesting to note that private citizens were generally not taking each others' lives the way we are seeing today, even though the weapons to do so were widely available. In America during the '40's and '50's, for example, guns were still commonly owned, even as they are today, yet school shootings and road rage incidents were unknown. The concept of right and wrong prevented explosions of personal violence in the main, and punishment was swift and harsh for those who disobeyed the law.

But today, four decades after 'progressive education' was introduced into classrooms aimed at eroding this same concept of right and wrong, everything has changed. When examining shooting incidents like James Wilson's, we can note some common denominators:

· Often the shooter has given warning signals of impending violence
· The shooter has previously displayed evidence of a blurred understanding of right and wrong
· The shooter often commits suicide after the event
· The shooter has a history of psychiatric drug treatment
· The incidents occur in societies where psychiatric drugs are commonly prescribed
· These psychiatric drugs themselves have an extremely well documented history of altering perceptions, inciting hostility and violence, and dissipating inhibitions

James had been taking psychiatric drugs for years, prescribed to him by Greenwood psychiatrist Willie Moseley. These included Xanax, Valium, Vistaril, Mellaril, Thorazine, Tofranil and Halcion. James Crossen, program director of the Chemical Dependency Recovery Unit at the Medical Center of North Hollywood, California, gives his considered opinion on what could have caused the 1988 shootings to happen: "That that young man should have been on drugs all his life, since he was fourteen, is ghoulish. The drugs would be a major contributing factor in such a surprising and sudden act of violence - a major contributor."

Four months after James' rampage, Patrick Purdy, 26, entered a Stockton, California schoolyard and opened fire, killing five children and wounding 29 more, including a teacher, before killing himself. Purdy had an extensive psychiatric drug history.

Two years previously, on 20th November 1986, 14-year-old Rod Matthews had gone on the rampage in Canton, Massachusetts, beating a classmate, Shawn Ouillette, to death with a baseball bat in the woods near his home. The academically gifted Matthews had been taking the psychiatric drug Ritalin since he was nine, and was withdrawing from his medication at the time of the killing. Matthews had told a teacher in the weeks before the killing that he had an urge to kill somebody. The teacher had merely replied that murder was a felony.

Nine months previously, young Timmy Becton, aged 10, had used his 3-year-old niece as a shield while wielding a shotgun at a sheriff's deputy, who had visited the Becton residence with a truant officer. "I'd sooner shoot you than go to school!" Timmy reportedly yelled. The month before, he had been taken to see a psychiatrist to help him with his hatred of school. The psychiatrist prescribed Prozac. His parents described that their son had suffered personality changes when the dosage of the drug was increased. They reported violent mood swings, during which Timmy would get 'really angry'.

The first of the school shooting incidents had occurred on 20th May 1988, when Laurie Dann, 30, walked into a school in Winnetka, Illinois, with three handguns and opened fire, killing one and wounding five. Laurie then fled the school and killed a man in a house nearby before committing suicide.

In 1995 in Illinois, Brian Pruitt, 16, fatally stabbed his grandmother in her bedroom and then laid in wait, killing his grandfather when he returned home. Brian had a history of psychiatric drug treatment.

In July 1996, two boys, aged 15 and 16 stabbed a high-school student after they had been taking sedatives, which they later told police made them feel 'invincible'.

In 1997 in New Jersey, Sam Manzie, 15, attacked and raped 11-year-old Eddie Werner, who had called on the Manzie home selling items door-to-door for the local PTA. Sam strangled Eddie with an electrical cord after the assault, photographing him with the cord still wrapped around his neck. He then threw away his victim's clothes and possessions in a rubbish bin next to the psychiatric facility where he had been receiving regular treatments, including the drug Paxil. His mother reports that Sam had told her: "I wasn't killing that little boy, I was killing [my psychiatrist] because he didn't listen to me."

On 25th May 1997, 18-year-old Jeremy Strohmeyer raped and murdered a 7-year-old girl in the ladies' room of a casino one week after commencing the drug Dexedrine.

On 21st May 1988, 14-year-old Kip Kinkel began his brief rule of terror. Kip's problems began when he was diagnosed with dyslexia and placed on Ritalin. His problems persisted. He attended 'anger control' classes and was additionally prescribed Prozac. Kip later went bezerk, entering his Springfield, Oregon high school and opening fire, killing two and injuring 22. He had also shot both his parents to death.

On 20th July 1987, two horrified parents walked into their garage to find their 16-year-old son swinging from the ceiling. After nine years on Ritalin, and undergoing withdrawal from the psychiatric drug, the tormented young man had hanged himself with water-skiing rope.

In October 1993, 15-year-old Gerard McCra shot his parents and sister to death. He had been taking Ritalin since the age of six. While this explosion of violence shocked Massachusetts, the Boston Globe was keen to begin its story, not in lamenting the tragedy to the family and the neighbourhood, but citing a quote from a medical spokesman incongruously attempting to cover himself: "There is no scientific evidence indicating that Ritalin causes, or in any way triggers violence in children who take the commonly prescribed medication for hyperactivity."

That this ridiculous statement is allowed to be published is all the more unsettling since the manufacturer of Ritalin itself, CIBA Pharmaceutical Company, had published the following public warning about its drug eight years before in 1985:

DRUG DEPENDENCE: Ritalin should be given cautiously to emotionally unstable patients, such as those with a history of drug dependence or alcoholism, because such patients may increase dosage on their own initiative. Chronically abusive use can lead to marked tolerance and physic dependence with varying degrees of abnormal behaviour. Frank psychotic episodes can occur, especially with parental abuse. Careful supervision is required during drug withdrawal, since severe depression as well as the effects of chronic over-activity can be unmasked.

Gerard McCra was reportedly abused by his parents while on Ritalin. Note that, by the admission of the manufacturers themselves, the purpose of Ritalin is to 'mask' the symptoms of 'over-activity', not cure them.

On 14th September 1989, Joseph Wesbecker marauded through a Louisville, Kentucky printing works, blasting eight former co-workers to death, wounding 12 others before turning the gun on himself. One of his surviving victims shudders: "I looked up into the face of who was holding the rifle. He was completely gone. There was just nothing there of what makes a person a person. He was gone. And I thought that, soon, I would be even more gone than he." An autopsy later showed that Joseph had 'therapeutic' levels of the anti-depressant Prozac in his blood at the time of the killings.

Prozac has a long and infamous history of dangerous side-effects. Regulatory agencies around the world consistently receive a string of adverse reaction reports on the drug. Even Valium, a known, highly addictive anti-depressant, only garnered 7,000 adverse reaction reports in the US over 20 years. In just 10 years, Prozac had amassed a stunning 40,000 complaints, including mass murders, suicides, mutilations and more than 2,30o deaths.

On 20th April 1999, Eric Harris, an 18-year-old senior at Columbine High School in Colorado, went on a murderous killing spree. Both Eric and his partner, Dylan Klebold, committed suicide after the event. Blood samples confirmed that Eric had been taking Luvox, a mind-altering drug in the same class as Prozac. Luvox (fluvoxamine) and Prozac (fluoxetine) are known as 'selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors' (SSRI's), so-named because they block the brain's absorption of the neurotransmitter serotonin, responsible for mood stabilisation. Luvox's manufacturers even warn that Luvox is 'sometimes fatal' to those who take it, and can activate mania and impair judgment and thinking.

Nicholas Regush, producer of medical features for ABC News, stated: "This is a widely recognised feature of antidepressants, as documented by their very own manufacturers. These drugs are also associated with bouts of irritability, hostility and aggression. Exactly how all this behavioural change is processed in the brain and how long-lasting it might be is poorly understood. Contrary to the big shows of knowledge by psychiatrists, there is a whole lot of guessing going on."

Eight years before the shootings, Columbine High had been the subject of a 1991 ABC 20/20 documentary for its controversial 'death education' class, in which students discussed such macabre topics as how they wanted to look in their caskets. Both Eric and Dylan had a well-documented obsession with violence, Satanism and weapons, both having been arrested for burglary in 1998 and placed into an 'anger management' program. Both were fans of the infamous pop-star, Marilyn Manson. Eric's web-site alone should have had the alarm bells ringing. Warning statements abounded, such as "I am the law. If you don't like it, you die!" and "You all better… hide in your houses because I am coming for EVERYONE soon, and I WILL be armed to the … teeth, and I WILL shoot to kill and I WILL… KILL EVERYTHING!"

DEATH IN THE PLAYGROUND
Today, children routinely threaten their teachers with extreme violence - so much so that in America, a special school police force patrols the campus to confiscate weapons and keep an eye on things. When I was at school, threats of that kind, while maybe entertained after a public humiliation, were never articulated. Even to breathe a threat to a teacher would have ensured a punishment so swift and solid, our feet wouldn't have hit the ground.

Fifty years ago, children almost never killed. Today it is commonplace. Apart from the above, cases such as those involving James Bulger, the Menendez brothers and Damilola Taylor have horrified the world. Gil Garcetti, District Attorney for Los Angeles County, remarks: "It's incredible, the ability of the very young to commit the most horrendous crimes was unthinkable 20 years ago."

Today, robberies are carried out by conscience-deadened youth drug-addicts. Murders, tortures and sadism are practised with Satanic ritual to a degree that was unheard of prior to the advent of the drug culture. Judge Susan Winfield of Washington DC comments: "Youngsters used to shoot each other in the body. Then in the head. Now, they shoot each other in the face." But still the 1980 Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry persists with its nonsense: "…taken no more than two or three times a week, cocaine creates no serious problems."

'Time Bombs' in our Schools

A DIFFERENT TYPE OF TERROR
"I became stronger. I climbed on top of the roof of the car. They gave me a weapon and put some marks on my face. I was no longer human. I could do anything."

In 1999, journalist and author, Alexander Cockburn wrote about the Unabomber, Theodore Kaczynski's history as a volunteer for mind-control experiments at Harvard in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Cockburn asked, "Did the experiment's long-term effects help tilt him into the Unabomber's homicidal rampages?…How many other human time bombs were thus primed? How many of them have exploded?"

DRUGGED CHILDREN USED FOR ARMED COMBAT
Around the world, some 250,000 children, some as young as seven, have been used by revolutionaries and terrorists for armed combat. In Afghanistan, for example, about four in 10 soldiers are younger than 18.

According to a UNICEF report, many children have been given amphetamines and tranquilizers to enable them to "go on murderous binges for days." According to Tina Susman, African correspondent for Newsday, "A close look into the faces [of these children] revealed hazy, bloodshot eyes behind the pervasive dark sunglasses, the result of drugs forced upon them or taken voluntarily to dull the fear of death."

Corinne Dufka from Human Rights Watch, stated, "It seemed to be a very organized strategy of getting the kids, drugging them up, breaking down their defense and memory, and turning them into fighting machines that didn't have a sense of empathy and feeling for the civilian population."

These same types of drugs have been used to train children in terrorist and revolutionary activities and murder. For example, revolutionaries in Sierra Leone, Africa, abducted Siamba at age 12 and gave him cocaine and amphetamines to prepare him for combat. Human Rights Watch reported in 1999 that "child combatants armed with pistols, rifles and machetes actively participated in killings and massacres, [and] severed the arms of other children....Often under the influence of drugs, they were known and feared for their impetuosity, lack of control and brutality."

But, as Mr. Cockburn warned, "There are other human time bombs, primed in haste, ignorance or indifference to long-term consequences. Amid all the finger-pointing to causes prompting the recent wave of schoolyard killings [in the U.S.], not nearly enough clamor has been raised about the fact that many of these teenagers suddenly exploding into mania were on a regimen of antidepressants." Eric Harris, one of the shooters at Columbine, was taking an antidepressant known to induce psychosis which, in turn, can produce "bizarre, grandiose, highly elaborated destructive plans, including mass murder…," according to a drug expert.

SCHOOLYARD "TERRORISM"
Time and time again, those who have been subjected to psychiatric or psychological "therapy," especially drugs, are offenders of the worst kind. Drug-crazed youngsters, even in Western countries, have proven themselves capable of the most callous violence imaginable while on psychiatric drugs.

DANGEROUS DRUG EFFECTS NOT LIMITED TO CHILDREN:

· On May 25, 2001, an Australian judge blamed a psychiatric antidepressant for turning a peaceful, law-abiding man, David Hawkins, into a violent killer. Judge Barry O'Keefe from the New South Wales Supreme Court said that had Mr. Hawkins not taken the drug, "it is overwhelmingly probable that Mrs. Hawkins would not have been killed…."

· In June, 2001, $8 million was awarded by a Wyoming, U.S. jury to the relatives of a man, Donald Schell, who went on a shooting rampage after taking an antidepressant, killing his wife, daughter and 9-month-old granddaughter, before turning a gun on himself. The jury determined that the drug was 80% responsible for inducing the killing spree.

· Two days later, eight Japanese children were stabbed to death and 15 others more injured in a frenzied knife attack by a man prescribed psychiatric drugs, which included the same antidepressant that Schell had taken.

While the psychiatrist continues to "sell" us on all the wrong reasons - everything from mental illness, poverty and broken families, to genetic makeup, none of which they can prove or cure - the fact missed by most is that psychiatric treatments, especially drugs, can cause violence.

But there is more. A 2000 Swedish study regarding 47 juvenile delinquents found that 40% were acute abusers of a tranquilizer known as the "fear reducer," a drug that enabled them to commit extremely violent crimes without regret. "Abusers showed no guilt about their violent offenses (When I stabbed him, it felt like putting a knife into butter)," states the report. "I didn't feel any emotion when I stabbed him five times," one teenager reported.

As Cockburn summed up, "Land mines now litter the terrain of our society, waiting to explode."

It is hardly ironic then that in Afghanistan, where Osama Bin Laden and his psychiatrist aide, Dr. al-Zawahiri reside, the main drug problem is tranquilizer addiction. The International Narcotics Control Board report for the year 2000 also reports that in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey, benzodiazepines (tranquilizers) are often abused with heroin and opium. The main drug is the "fear reducer" referenced in the above Swedish report.

Disease Centers Won't Issue
Mercury Alert over Flu Shots
by Myron Levin

Hundreds of thousands of infants and toddlers who get flu shots starting this fall could be exposed to a mercury-laced preservative that has been all but eliminated from other pediatric vaccines because of health concerns.

Saying there is no proof of harm from exposure to the preservative thimerosal, officials with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed that they won't advise parents and doctors to choose a mercury-free version of the flu vaccine.

This year, flu shots are being added to the government's "recommend" list of vaccines that should be given to all young children. The CDC's decision, made despite pleas from parent activist groups and some experts, appears to be at odds with recent federal warnings about exposure to mercury, a potent neurotoxin, and with the government's successful effort to see mercury removed from other childhood vaccines.
